Chapter 71
Chapter 71
(Eli)
“Come to me, honey. I’m waiting. Keep following your mate’s voice.”
I freed myself from the arms of the man lying beside me on the bed while whispering the words my mate had instructed me to. When I opened the door, the guards had fallen asleep.
“That’s it. You are doing a good job. A little more, honey, and we’ll see each other again. Are you excited to be with me?”
My mouth responded automatically. “Yes.”
I could see him in my mind, smiling brightly at me with a bouquet of red roses in his hands. With every word I uttered, everyone who attempted blocking me had passed out. Landon cheered me on and urged me to grab a knife in the kitchen before opening the main door. I stepped onto the pile of sleeping bodies and broke the barrier in the house using my blood.
Each step I took to walk away from the house was a step closer to my mate. It was going so well until a huge blonde man with all his seven feet and something inches towered over me and hindered my path.
“Where do you think you are going, princess?” he asked, no, not asked, but demanded. “Does Black know that you’re leaving him?” He glanced down and saw me barefoot. “Without shoes and only your nightgown?”
“Black?” I repeated, my chest thumped as the face in my head started to get distorted.
“No, honey. Do not listen to him. He’s lying to you. Repeat the words I will tell you-”
“Yes, Creed Black,” the stranger in front of me muttered louder than the voice in my head. “The owner of this house. The alpha who brought you in this realm. The man who made the dragons come down. For you, princess. The rude bastard who was your mate before anyone else. For all his rudeness and darkness, he did not mark you without your consent unlike what a certain someone did. So, get Landon Richards out of your head. Now. Tell him it is a sacred place, and he is not welcome there.”
“Creed…” I said instead.
A new image popped into my head as Landon’s voice kept ringing in my ears. The image was the man who had been studying spell books religiously, forsaking sleep, His face was still unclear to me. But I remembered that he was the same man who would put me to bed but wouldn’t sleep to keep guarding me. Recently, the dragons had also given him record books about them and the tamers. He kept reading because he said that was the only way he could get to know me better.
What was his name again?
I wasn’t ready to face the dragons. And to think they were supposed to be my relatives. A new memory suddenly flashed in my mind.
‘It’s okay. Take your time, Vicious. I will face them on your behalf,’ he said the other day.
‘You really are fearless, aren’t you?’ I asked.
In my head, I heard him laugh as he stroked my cheeks and I was getting more and more frustrated because his face was still blurry. What did he look like again?
‘As much as it flatters me that you think I don’t get afraid at all, I have to be honest. I would not lie to you, Vicious. I am afraid. Who wouldn’t? Those men can fly you away from me any minute and take you in a realm I don’t even know where. In their dragon forms, they are bigger, stronger, and better fighters.
He was admitting his weakness but strangely, he didn’t look weak in my eyes.

If I can face them by myself, that’s because of you, Vicious. Always because of you’
I love you, I recalled saying instead, my heart feeling warm and full.
‘Who owns me?’
‘Me, I answered proudly.
He nodded, smiling. ‘Yes, you do, Vicious.’

Four words that pretty much sounded like I love you to me. Maybe even better. Even sweeter. Only then did his face became clear to me. How was I able to forget the face of the man who taught me what real love was?
I blinked twice until Landon’s face had completely vanished in my head. I looked around and saw the mages bleeding a few steps away. I winced.
“Are you
back to your senses now, princess?” the man in front of me asked.
Alistair, the dragon general. I remembered him now. That was his name. We first met last week.
I nodded, ashamed that I had almost left Creed. “Did I… do that to the mages?” I asked.
“You didn’t mean to do it. They understand that it’s part of their duty. The healers will come and take care of them,” he said instead. “I’ve been telling Black that there is no need for mages. I am here along with three more dragons. We are only dealing with a hatchling. He cannot fight us by himself. But he insisted the mages stay here.”
And I could see why.
I still had no idea how to use my powers even after reading the books about tamers. Reading about them only made my head throb. Creed was no longer worried about Landon invading our home. He wouldn’t do that with Alistair and his men around. He was worried about me, that as a tamer bonded with Landon, I might end up doing something that even the dragons might not be able to stop me.
“What’s happening to me?” I asked, trembling. “Why did I listen to that jerk? Why did I follow him of all people? Am I cursed?”
“Unwanted bonds feel exactly like that. All dragons have mental barriers. But the pregnancy makes your defenses weak, princess,” Alistair answered after putting his phone down. “As a mixed breed, your full powers as a tamer are taking a while to manifest. Not to mention that dragon bonds are the strongest bond known to all realms. Without your full powers awakening, Richards will remain many times stronger than you are. With a tamer’s blood in his system, although he is a hatchling, he’s still a pretty powerful dragon.”
The dragons knew how to untie me with Landon, but they said it would put me and the baby at risk. The process was long and painful, involving a series of spells. Landon was using that to his advantage, knowing full well that he cannot be killed. When triggered, he could hurt himself and end up hurting me. He couldn’t come here that’s why he was making me come to him instead.
Asshole.
My eyes watered. “I hate this so much.”
Alistair’s expression softened. “I’m sorry you have to go through this, princess. If only we found you sooner, you wouldn’t have met him and wouldn’t have to suffer in his hands.”
“Vicious?”
I couldn’t turn around upon hearing Creed’s voice, I was too embarrassed. I couldn’t believe that I casted a spell or was it a curse on him? Whatever it was, it put him to sleep. What if he didn’t wake up from it? How could I ever forgive myself?

Alistair must have woken him up with his call. The latter bowed to me and excused himself, leaving me and Creed alone at the shore.
He hugged me from behind. “Hush, it’s okay,” he whispered before I could say sorry.
“It’s not, Creed. It’ll never be okay. You don’t know what I did.”
I forgot you. I let you go. I walked away from you. And it could happen again.
Yet, I didn’t have the heart to say those words out loud.
“I’m sorry, Creed. I’ve been making your life hard since day one. I’m such a bad mate. I almost…” My voice trailed off.
“You remembered me in the end. That was enough for me, Vicious. I will always be here to pull you back.” Gently, he spun me around so our eyes could meet. He cupped my face as love and understanding filled his dark eyes. “I’m telling you again. It’s alright. If you forget me, I’ll just make you remember me again. Not to brag but I am a very lovable man. Do you think I can’t make you fall in love with me again?”
Of course, he could.
One smile and I knew he would win me over.
But it didn’t make me less afraid. What if because of this despicable bond, Landon wouldn’t be the only enemy he had to face? I couldn’t control myself anymore. If not for Alistair, my bond with Landon had almost won. He was doing it all over again. Controlling me in the most merciless way this time. He wouldn’t hesitate to use me for his own gain. He did it before. He could do it again.
Until when was Creed going to understand me and forgive me? What if one day, I end up becoming his enemy?
