Chapter 87

(EID)

Our breaths were mingling with each other. Our noses were so close they were grazing. And his hand, God… it was still there between my thighs. I was drenched. It had been too long for me. The stranger was the shifter between us, but I felt like I’d turn rabid myself if he would take his hand off me.

But I had to.

Because I was going to become a mom and I couldn’t keep disappointing my baby because of his mother’s wrong choices in life. Landing in this situation was embarrassing enough.

I bit his lower lip and took advantage of the surprise written in his eyes as I grabbed his hand and dropped it right away before I was tempted to hold it again. I could thaw it. The first thing my mother taught me as self-defense was setting things on fire. I knew I could do it to others during emergencies. And this was definitely an emergency.

But to my frustration, I couldn’t do it to this man. The mere idea of hurting him like that made something inside me rebel. Why, though?

I put three steps between us while our gazes were still locked, the emotions in his eyes mirroring mine. I saw a flicker of wonder there, like he was also not expecting this lethal energy vibrating between us. And then there was this pure, unadulterated hunger that lingered in his handsome face, the one I knew I would be thinking of when I fall asleep tonight.

What was wrong with fate? Making me feel this way just when I’d sworn off men after my marriage with Landon fell apart.

The alpha bridged the distance between us and caught my hand just when I was about to step back again. He lifted my hand. his teeth grazed against my finger, fueling the fire in my body.

“No ring,” he murmured. “Where is the baby daddy? Is he still alive?”

I nodded, frowning at the sudden change of topic. This was not how I thought I’d be interrogated.

“Are you together?” he growled.

Was it jealousy flashing in his eyes?

“Not anymore.”

“Good,” he nodded as he sucked my finger while staring at me unabashed. “Are you seeing someone?”

Before I could answer, his wolf snarled, suddenly alert, by the sound that broke the silence of the night. They were here. They found me, the dragons, I could hear their wings fluttering outside,

“Your Highness,” I heard Alistair calling out to me. “We have come to escort you back home.”

I was about to turn around when the alpha caught my chin as if he didn’t want me giving attention to anything else.

“So, it was true. You are a dragon princess.”

“I told you.”

He smirked, “What? They couldn’t feed you properly up there in your celestial tower that you had to come down to the land of the ordinary to steal some food?”

His tone was back to mocking, like he held a deep grudge against the dragons. Despite my face turning red, I lifted my chin. “I didn’t steal. I was starving and the food was right there, tempting me. Who am I to say no to such an offering? That’s why I invited myself in. Rest assured, you will be properly compensated for the food and the intrusion.”

Dark amusement flashed in those stunning eyes and God, I wished my baby would have the same eyes as him. I gasped after a while, stunned by the sudden idea that popped in my head.

“So, the dragons’ heir is not only a thief. She is a liar as well. I worry about their future.”

I was worried too. Not about the dragons. They were too old and capable for someone my age to worry about them. What I was worried about was my body, particularly about my heart’s reaction to this man.

The dragon general’s knock on the door snapped me out of it. I snatched my hand back from the alpha and took another step back, his beast howling in an instant, making an appearance, allowing me to see it at last. My eyes widened upon realizing that it looked like the wolf that I’d been seeing in my dreams.

It kept making a sound, as if it was sending a message that I couldn’t understand which made the alpha’s forehead crease while I stared at it, emotions surging within me. Relief, agony, and longing… but why?

“Your Highness?”

“I need to go.”

The last thing I wanted was to be seen in a misleading situation with a stranger. It was hard enough to explain what brought me here. The door opened. The alpha suddenly grabbed a jacket and placed it over my shoulders before facing Alistair who barged in together with Uncle Anson.

“So, you two, have finally met, huh?” Uncle asked and he didn’t even look surprised that he found me in a stranger’s house. It was like he had been expecting this. Did he think that lowly of me that he somehow knew I’d be messing up like this?

He glanced at the alpha before giving me his full attention. “Would you still like to come back with us?”

“Why wouldn’t I?”

“Well, you two are-“His words cut off as blood spilled into his mouth. The same thing happened to Alistair when he tried opening his mouth.

The sight was the distraction my body needed to finally cooperate with me. I ran to my uncle. “What’s happening? Why are you bleeding?”

Uncle Anson and Alistair threw each other a swift glance, understanding crossing their eyes, like they were exchanging messages in their heads. Alistair handed a silk handkerchief to my uncle which the latter used to wipe the blood off his mouth as he glanced at the full moon through the glass wall, he shook his head in disbelief.

“Fucking divine punishment,” he uttered, bleeding all over again.

“What is really going on?” I asked.

“I’m afraid we cannot tell you further details anymore, your highness. It seems like the Moon Goddess decided to make her appearance known now, punishing us for meddling with the people she chose.” Alistair scowled. “Why the hell didn’t she punish the real murderers out there? Why us?”

My uncle shrugged. “She must have known that we would do the punishment on her behalf. Lazy as fuck goddess-”

Before he could finish his sentence, he coughed blood. This time, even his nose bled. Uncle just smirked before recklessly wiping the blood with his hand and then facing the alpha stranger.

“I heard you declined the job that my brother offered, Creed.”

“You discussed it with my uncle and the king. Without me there, whatever negotiation you had with them was invalid. Like they probably told you, I’m on vacation and I’m busy searching for something,” the alpha replied, glancing briefly at the dragon lord.

So, you haven’t found it yet?”

Creed’s gaze went back to my face. “I think I’m getting there.”

“Does that mean you are accepting my brother’s offer now?”

“Unfortunately.”

Uncle and Alistair grinned like they were expecting it. “Good. Jack and I always knew you would say yes.”

“How presumptuous. Thank you for reminding me why I dislike the dragons, Rosewood.”

“My pleasure.”

To say that I was shocked by their exchange was an understatement. There were two and a half dragons in the alpha’s territory, half being me, and there were more outside. Yet, I didn’t see Creed take a step back and bow.

While others would shrink in the presence of the dragons, he remained as still as a mountain like this was just an ordinary Tuesday night for him and not the night where his life could be in danger because of his unfiltered mouth.

Back in Isla El Vera, no dragon would ever talk to my uncle like that. In fact, I saw them shake in front of him like a leaf. They were that terrified of him. His beast, especially Uncle Jack’s, were the biggest in all of the realms.

But this alpha? He simply didn’t give a damn. Either he had a death wish, or he was that confident about his capabilities although I noticed the respect briefly flashing in Uncle and Alistair’s eyes for him, for not bending his knee and standing his ground.

Alistair glanced around, his dragon suddenly restless, as his brows furrowed while uncle protectively aimed for my hand.

“We should go. This place is no longer safe for you, your highness.”

But just before uncle could pull me away, Creed was there, standing in front of me in a blink of an eye, holding onto my other hand as he pulled me to him before whispering in my ear.

“I will see you very soon, your horniness.”
