“We lived in peace and harmony for many years. But we are on the verge of losing them because of His Excellency’s sister and niece. This is all their fault! If only they hadn’t been found, Max would not have to endure such cruelty. Those women are ruining everything we are protecting. They should just leave

I paused at the verbal assault I overheard from the servants, especially from Vanna, the very person who was all smiles at me during the day as she served me my meals, the same woman who looked so concerned about me after seeing the gift the stalker left in my room a few minutes ago. In fact, she eyed me with tears as she held my hand.

Was this what mom also had to endure every day when she was till living with the dragons? I could understand now why she had to leave.

People were scary. It was not easy to tell who was being real to us or who was cursing us behind our back when they all smiled in front of us.

“Did you see the princess’ reaction?” one of the servants asked. “She was calm. While all of us are panicking, she does not seem like she cares even a little.”

Vanna scoffed. “Because she knew there would be people like us who would have no choice but to fight her freaking battles for her. All tamers are like that. Spoiled brats. Just because they were given a little more power, they feel special and act out like they are the heaven’s gift to us all.”

“Special?” the four girls laughed. “They cannot even shift.”

“I know, right? They only bring trouble to every place they go to. They lure the lords, make them fight, divide them, and weaken our realm as a result. Tamers? Bullshit. They are more like whores who open their legs for everyone and then blame it to others. I pity her unborn child. Fatherless and-”

I didn’t know how I did it. I just blinked back the tears and before I knew it, I was standing in front of them. The backpack I was holding fell onto the ground as their chatters stopped, their faces paled in shock. Some of the gold bars slipped from the bag. I caught the judgment and taunting smirks in their face before they were able to quickly hide their emotions.

I may look like a materialistic bitch in their eyes and if they would dare say it in front of my face, I would agree right away. Because they were right.

I was afraid that things would fall apart and mom and I would have to leave this island and we would have to find a new place to live in again. Because things like that always happen to us. Things always fell apart just when we were starting to feel comfortable.

That’s why I couldn’t be comfortable. I couldn’t keep my guard down. I had to have a back up plan if things went down the drain. What would I feed my mom? My baby? They wouldn’t understand those worries. Dragons always had everything they needed in their realm; my uncles made sure of that. They didn’t know what I had to go through in the human realm.

Vanna was the first to recover among her minions. She plastered that same sugary smile and bowed to me like nothing happened. The audacity.

“Your Highness, you shouldn’t have been walking by yourself. What if something happens to you? What if you were attacked? It’ll be a great loss to this realm.” The disgust in her expression and tone quickly morphed into worry. “Is there something you need? I will get it for you. Anything for you, your highness.”

“Yes,” I replied just as sweetly, pasting the same smile, and hold back the scream. “There is something I want you to do.”

“What is it, princess?” She sounded as if she was indulging a little girl while her minions struggled to suppress their laughter. “Please tell me. I will do it right away. We would not want you toully your pretty little hands”

I could see it now, she was treating me like I was unable to do things without her help, making me teel gullible in front of

the dragons, especially the soldiers who passed by.

“Stand properly,” I ordered, still in that soft voice she was familia with.

She did as commanded, waiting for further orders. I clenched my fist and punched her in the face. It sent her flying to the nearest tree. Her cheek was swollen and her lower lip was bleeding as she held her face and stared at me, dumbfounded, and then she gave me that look that made me want to scream and cr at the same time.

Like she was the victim and I was the villain. Her minions ran to her, freaking out.

“You know nothing about me. Nothing at all,” I said in a barely controlled rage. “For the next command, I want the four of you out of my sight forever.”

“We can’t leave, your highness. His Excellency brought us here-

“Then I don’t care how you make yourselves disappear when I’m around. You either kill yourself or beg the king to get you out of this island because the next time I see you, I swear I will show you exactly what this whore could do.”

I burned the tree they were leaning against, making them screech as the crimson fire quickly spread to their clothes and hair. They ran to the fountain and when that didn’t work, they shifted. But even their dragons were caught by the fire, their wings were burning as they flew around in panic.

“Should we… help them, princess?” a soldier asked hesitantly.

“It depends. Are they going to die from it?”

“No, your highness. They will live. It’ll be very uncomfortable, but they will survive.”

“Then let them burn a little more,” I told him before turning my back on him.

Maybe they were right. I was a villain after all. I gathered the bag I dropped, collected the gold bars, put them back in, and then walked away, fully aware that many eyes were digging a hole in my back. When I was finally alone on the beach, my knees gave out and I let the tears spill.

“Calm?” I screamed, laughing hysterically as the tears rolled down. “How can anyone be calm after that? What the heck do they see me as? A machine? Who would want to be stalked? To be threatened like that? To be unable to sleep at night knowing that if I did, he might take me and hurt my baby? I’m falling apart! Every damn day. But that doesn’t mean I’d go around and advertise it though. I may be like this, but I still have pride! Damn you all!”

“Damn them all,” a familiar voice from somewhere second the motion.

I was still sobbing, my heart was breaking, and it was getting harder to breathe. I was drowning from the misery, from the questions, from the heartache that life kept dumping on me because life couldn’t fucking give me a break even just until I gave birth.

I lifted my head. My blurry gaze connected with a pair of storm gray eyes.

Creed Black.

My new bodyguard who was not supposed to arrive yet.

I sobbed harder. Black. The thing I’d been scribbling mindlessly for months now. The one I couldn’t understand until now.

The Alpha General strode towards me in his dark tailored suit, nus the tie. The first few buttons of his top were open, revealing a glimpse of his muscular chest. He stared at me and same washed over me. Did he think the same with those dragons?

A strange woman who got horny at the sight of an alpha, thus the nickname he gave me before we parted way’s last night. The food thief and now, the greedy princess with a bag full of god bars, having a meltdown.

“I am Creed Black, your personal bodyguard, reporting for duty After sinking on his knees, disregarding his expensive suit to level his eyes with me so I wouldn’t need to look up, his fingers traced the tears on my face. “Give me my first assignment, princess.”

“W-what?”

His expression changed. Suddenly, he looked unhinged.

“Tell me who made you cry. Who do I need to put down?”
