Claimed by the Biker Giant (Maxine and Tank) novel Chapter 188

Fixer POV

My work was on one these broken bikes, it had more meaning to me now, and it hurt in a way, to know that people died on these bikes, that I am restoring, in memory of them, they might never go out on the road again, on a daily basis, but maybe for memorials or special occasions, they should be on display for all to see, maybe I can something like that, build one of each bike, that Harley Davidson ever made.

Not all bikers ride Harleys; some like the go-fast bikes, and pop wheel stands, and do silly things, mainly the younger ones, but as long as they are having fun, I don’t mind. It can be bothersome having to fix them all the time, and I have started sending them to Mike; I can’t be bothered with stupidity.

My stomach grumbled, and I was shocked to see it was late afternoon, and I had worked through lunch, eek, don’t tell Tank, he will get angry, he is extra watchful, since he found out I was carrying his child. He only got told yesterday, and he already texted me twice to make sure I was eating and taking breaks. But I had done neither yet.

I closed everything down and locked up the workshop, not that I expect to be broken into, with all the security around the place. The bunkhouses are completed, and the work on the water hole has started. I want it done before the real summer heat starts up.

In the kitchen, I had sat down to eat some chicken salad and a nice herbal tea when Tank walked.

“Hey, want a snack?” I asked, pointing to the makings still on the table, if he wanted some, there was a jar of my homemade fruit and nut bars, which I eat on trips. Tank had talked me into making some, and I always have a jar full at hand. He loved them that much.

“Good to see you eating healthy.” Huh? Thought I was always healthy.

He made a sandwich and coffee and sat beside me.

“I talked to Savage, who wants the night to think about it.”

“Good, he needs to put it behind him, and try again, the baby should help heal some of his wounds, especially if it’s a girl. It would be like he could make up for missing out on you.” As crazy as that sounded, it was most likely true. We tend to make up for our loss with something similar.

“What time are we leaving? According to Prez, we might have Sticks back tomorrow.”

“Oh, that would be great, I hadn’t been over to visit, hospitals, and me and not good companions,” I say, with so many bad memories at that place. Sticks was the first positive, which could have gone either way if we hadn’t had the helicopter. I am just thankful we got her to the hospital in time, but it was still difficult being there, getting all those bad memories floating around in my head as I waited for news. Tank’s arrival was my only saving grace, dragging me out of those memories. He seemed to arrive when I needed him the most, without me having to call.

“Well, you’re going to have the baby at home then?” He asked, making me think about that, if I don’t have the issues that Sticks had, there was no reason not to have it at home.

“Let’s wait and see how the pregnancy goes. If everything goes well, then maybe we can have a home birth.” I reply, liking the idea more and more. The doctor would be at hand when I got closer, and the helicopter could have me in the hospital in five minutes.

“We can get a room set up for the birth, with a tub to lie in, and things to make it easier for you; however, if the labour goes on too long, promise me you will let the doctor give you something to help you rest,” Tank asked, almost pleading.

“I promise, so we can make plans for a home birth, can get the nurse in when I am almost due, and I am positive that Jenny will be watching me closely, like she did with Sticks, guiding me with what to look out for, was just so glad the doctor was there visiting when things we pear shape.” I was ever so grateful he popped in when he did. I think the nurse might have called him in.
