Tank POV
It was lunchtime when I woke. Fixer had already left the bedroom after I had a quick shower, dressed, and left the bedroom to hunt down my little lady. The only people I found were Prez, with Stick, and the baby.
“Morning, have you seen Fixer?” I asked, taking in the casual way they were sitting in the lounge, if all goes well, the nurse will arrive today.
“Fixer left with Uncle Simon an hour ago, something about getting the stores open for the needy, or something.” Sticks said, looking a lot better than yesterday.
“Did you stay here yesterday?” I asked Prez, he was relaxed on the lounge, baby in arms, with a goofy smile on his face. Not at all like the expressions I was used to seeing on his face.
“Yep, stayed with Sticks and Melony, girls needed some support. This morning, Zero and Blaze went to town to help with the emergency. Melony had gone to work to see what was left of it, and Jenny had gone to the hospital to check on the children and the teacher. Did I see you limping?” Pres asked, eyeing my left leg.
“Yeah, I slipped on some rocks up at the bluff. It wasn’t so bad until I helped move a tree from the road, and I think I pulled something; it has stiffened up overnight.” I have had worse, at least I didn’t need help to get home; that would have been embarrassing.
After eating and giving the happy couple drinks, I went to the garage and started up my truck.
“Tank.” Savage cornered me before I could back out of the garage.
“Yeah?” I lowered the window and looked at him.
“Off to town?”
“Yeah, need to offer more help if I can, and maybe find Fixer,” I replied, waiting for the real reason. for stopping me.
“Can I come? I don’t have a vehicle, and I don’t think I should fly into town.” He joked with a cheeky grin.
“Sure, hope in.” Savage moved around the other side and climbed in.
“That was one heck of a storm, can’t remember this town having such a severe one this time of year,” Savage tried to make conversation.
“Sure was, a lot of people are now with no power, of a roof over their heads. Luckily, this place was storm safe; this time, next door had a few trees down, one of which was hitting the workshop, which will need repairs. Lucky no bikes were seriously damaged.” I thought about how bad it could have been if that tree had fallen the other way; a number of bikes would have been crushed.
“Fixer, Jenny, Bruiser, and Dale worked well as a team; you wouldn’t have guessed it was the first time doing something like that. I was so proud.” Savage beamed a huge smile as he remembered the rescue.
“Any news on the teacher?” I asked, since he might have been kept in the loop.
“He’s doing well, missed his vital organs. Had some surgery, fixing his bowel and intestines, but on the whole, he was very lucky. The kids can go home today, except the one with the head wound.”
“Very lucky man, his wife will be happy to hear that. Where in town do you want to be dropped off? Call me when you’re ready to return.”
“Main street, think might find Fixer in that area, she had a number of stores to visit, think she was organising, some funds for the town’s repairs.”
“I will come with you and look around for her.” I parked and climbed out, wincing as I put weight on my leg.
“You okay?” He moved to support me.
“Yeah, think I pulled something yesterday, moving a tree.”
“This one’s special,” Fixer replies, with a grin.
“Special? How?” Savage asked the question before me.
“Bruiser likes her, and the boy loves Bruiser. She divorced, hubby ran off with someone younger. Or so I am told, good riddance, because he used to hit her, and I hate men who feel it’s okay to hit their wives when they’re having a bad day. Not that she had done anything wrong.”
“Bruiser? You have really taken to him,” Savage said, looking at her as if he were reading her.
“I feel he has had the bad end of the stick; his whole bike family turned their backs on him, and he lost the woman he thought he was going to spend the rest of his life with. Yes, I have a soft spot for him; he’s an underdog, like me, but he has not once complained; he sucked it up and moved on, keeping his head up as best he can. Bruiser would be feeling a little lost at the moment, out of his comfort zone. He can see and hear those bikes coming and going; it has to hurt.”
We arrived at the coffee shop, went in, ordered, and took a seat by the window.
“What did you do?” Fixer asked once we sat down. Savage started to chuckle, as if he knew what she was talking about, and I was in the bad books.
“Um, you will need to be more specific, like in what context are you asking that question?” I asked, trying to backtrack what we had talked about, and came up empty.
“Okay, play innocent. You’re limping.” I thought I had hidden it well, but I guess I can’t hide anything from my woman.
“He was trying to move a tree and needed some help.” Savage was full-on laughing now; he thought it was funny,
“Tank, really, I know you can lift heavy objects, but even you need help.” She told me off, and Savage ended up with tears in his eyes; he had laughed that hard. While Fixer was glaring at me for pulling a muscle.
