Chapter 328
Skunk POV
I did it.
Yep, I did.
I asked Pip to be my lady; it’s fast, and the reasons behind it might not be in my favour. If she says no, I will keep working on her until she says yes. Patiently and gently, use Dan to be my ally, together, we can wear her down.
Now, to start working on that plan, the first step will be to find Dan.
“Skunk, how’s Pip?” Wrench called out, having me change my direction, hoping that Wrench had
Dan.
“Left hip slight dislocation, and the swelling in her throat might render her unable to talk for a few days; it’s still swelling, apparently. Nothing broken.” I couldn’t see Dan.
“Where is she?” Jip asked, coming into the room, with Dan at his side.
“Daddy,” Dan raced towards me and threw his arms around my legs, looking up at me with a smile.
“My room, the best place for her, it’s quiet and secluded,” I replied as I lifted Dan onto my hip.
“Did she get photos taken?” Wrench looked at me, hopeful.
“Yep, and had the report sent to the officer in charge, too.”
“Good, hope they put him away for good.”
“I can’t see him getting a long jail time, but the two assaults should be at least two years, unless they have other crimes they can pin on him. We have to be prepared for him to get out on bail and come looking for her. I have suggested she doesn’t leave the compound for a while. At least until she has healed.” I was tempted to tell them my offer, but held off. This was not about me and what I could do; it was about Pip and what she wanted. Right now, if I say something, they might go to her, leaving Pip feeling she’s being pressured and backing off, even if the answer is positive.
“I agree, she has to move here with us. No way can I live with myself, thinking she’s out there alone and vulnerable, that azzhat can show up any time he wants, and that gatekeeper kept letting him in. I reckon, no matter where she moves to, it will be the same, so here’s the only answer for now, long term, who knows.” Wrench was talking out loud, more than to anyone in particular. She apparently does that, voicing her views for anyone to hear and comment on.
“Agreed, she has a room here for as long as she needs one.” Fixer’s voice came out from behind us. I turned to see Storm and Fixer coming towards us.
“Not sure about the rest of you, but I miss lunch. Anyone want to join us?”
“I had my lunch at the pancake place,” Wrench answered, but I hadn’t eaten. To me, it was getting closer to dinner time, not lunch, maybe that was the Fixer’s way of having a dig at me, knowing I hadn’t eaten and then spent time at the hospital.
“Yeah, I missed lunch, come on, champ, let’s see what’s in the kitchen.” I left them to talk when it occurred to me that Fixer wanted to discuss the situation without Dan hearing it. Mostly, he won’t understand. But I should have thought of him hearing out the discussion.
I made some toasted cheese sandwiches, cut up some small coffee and juice, and sat in the
kitchen. Dan decided he was going to feed me, not interested in eating, but he drank the juice
between feeding me the toasties. We had just finished when the ladies arrived to start preparing
dinner. It would take a couple of hours, but my toast wouldn’t spoil dinner.
“I love seeing you with your son, you are cute together, with the lad feeding you, he’s the dad, you’re the son.” One of the older ladies giggled as they made fun of me at the same time as
complimenting me. They weren’t in here to see this time, but remembered from breakfast that Dan most likely fed me.
“Play,” Dan demanded when he popped the last piece of food in my mouth, and checked my cup
