"Alright, I've got a busy house to run. We'll talk another time."
Nancy shook her head with a sigh. Every time she brought this up, that brat would pull the same stunt and hang up on her.
She rested her chin on her hand and glanced up at the stunning couple on the second floor.
They were a perfect match, incredibly easy on the eyes.
People used to think Ace was entirely uninterested in women, or maybe his preferences swung another way. Turns out, he was just incredibly picky.
"Mom, get me some water. I'm dying of thirst."
Clara Kinsley dropped into a stool, fanning her face with her hand.
"You really need to work on your stamina. You barely ran at all, and you're already panting like this?"
Nancy poured a glass of iced water and handed it over. Clara took it and downed it in one gulp.
Her gaze casually drifted to the second floor. She froze, a flash of pure joy lighting up her eyes.
"Mom, it's Alistair."
She stood up, fully intending to head straight up the stairs.
Nancy quickly grabbed her arm. "He's on a date. Don't go crashing it."
"A date?" Clara was stunned. "Since when does Alistair have a girlfriend?"
"He's thirty. It's completely normal for him to be dating."
"But Mom, I thought Alistair wasn't interested in women?"
In truth, she had been in love with him since the first day they met. But because he was always so cold, unsmiling, and seemingly repelled by women, she had kept her feelings buried, never daring to confess.
She never imagined someone else would beat her to it.
If she had known his preferences were completely standard, she would have confessed ages ago.
Oblivious to her daughter's internal spiral, Nancy laughed. "It wasn't that he disliked women. He just hadn't met the right one yet. Look at how attentive he is now that he has."
