Contracted To The Beast novel Chapter 47

Chapter 47

Trapped in the same space, forced to act like we’re in love.

I pressed my lips together.

This was a terrible idea.

So why did a small part of me feel… excited?

I stared at my desk, but I wasn’t seeing it.

Mykonos.

With Maddox.

The words didn’t settle. They just… floated, like my brain hadn’t caught up yet.

A few days. Another country. With him.

My fingers tightened slowly against the edge of the table.

This wasn’t just a trip.

It was proximity.

No escaping him. No pretending he wasn’t there. No hiding behind work or distance.

Just… him.

My stomach turned.

Not entirely from fear.

And that was the problem.

I exhaled slowly, pressing my lips together.

This was a terrible idea. But somewhere, buried under all the anxiety-something in me was already anticipating it.

Oh my goodness! What am I going to do?

There’s no way I’ll be able to get myself out of this. I’ll have to go. I don’t have any other choice.

At least it’s a twin room suite. I’ll be able to have my privacy. But even then, it still isn’t enough. We’ll practically be in the same space and I don’t know if I’ll be able to handle it.

My phone beeped, catching my attention. It was Maddox. “I’ve booked an appointment with Tan France for you. He’ll style you for the entire trip.”

I dropped my phone on the table. I’ve never been out of the country before. My entire life has been within the confines of Canada. I’m grateful that I get to go on an all expense paid trip and put on designer brands.

I just never expected my first trip to be with a person I hate so much. Maddox of all people.

I’ve always dreamed of going on a vacation. What’s even better than going on a trip to another country with your man?

I grabbed my phone and googled Mykonos. “Wow” I sighed out loud. It’s really beautiful. It’s perfect for honeymoon trips.

It’s no wonder Mr Hale picked it. For now I’ll just try and focus on the positives. I’m going to an amazing city in Greece, which is great because I’m not spending a dime. I get to kick one thing off my bucket list.

Chapter 47

I wonder how long the trip will last? I just realised he didn’t say anything about the duration.

I managed to push all thoughts of Maddox aside and focus on work. I checked the time. It was almost 6pm and I haven’t really eaten anything today except the sandwich I had this morning.

“Dr Page,” I heard a sing-song voice accompanied by a knock.

“Come in” I stared amused as Liam stepped in.

“Hey Busy bee,” he said, taking a seat. “Still working?”

“I’m wrapping up right now. I was about texting you” I said.

“It’s a good thing I’m here then” he flashed his pearly whites. “Take your time though, there’s no need to rush.”

I took my time as he said, completing my tasks for the day.

“I’m ready” I said as I finished arranging my stuff.

“Any news about my car?” I asked as we got into his.

“Hmm, not good news if I’m to be very honest,” he turned on his ignition and began the drive to the condo. “The engine’s

dead.”

My heart sank as the words dropped from his lips. “I’m sorry Nia.”

“Is it fixable?” I asked, feeling a little hopeful.

“It might be, but you’ll have to change the entire engine” He said softly. “I’ll talk to him about it tomorrow though and get back to you okay?”

“Okay,” I said, mustering a smile.

“Thank you very much,” I said to Liam as we arrived at the condo.

“You’re welcome Nia. I’ll see you tomorrow then. Just call me when you’re ready,” he said as he walked me to my apartment door.

I exhaled deeply as I bid him goodbye. So Wanda has finally broken down on me. I bought her in my second year of college. from an Old American Lady who was relocating back to her country. I spent all the savings I gathered from working multiple jobs. I needed to be able to carry Zara around.

I can’t afford a new car.

Not now. Not when every extra dollar I have is going into keeping my family afloat. Mom’s Clinic Rent. House rent,

Groceries. Zara.

I swallowed hard. Wanda wasn’t just a car. She was the first thing I ever bought with my own money. The first proof that I could survive on my own.

And now… she is gone.

I still need to pay mom’s rent. I’m hoping to use part of the proceeds of this contract to purchase the property for mom, then I won’t have to pay rent anymore.

I’ll just have to keep tagging along with Liam and using an uber until I’m able to raise the money for a new engine for Wanda.

I headed to the kitchen to make some Mac and cheese. I’m feeling so hungry. I can’t believe I was so occupied with work I
