Chapter 257
Rania had a mixed feeling when she walked towards the platform. She didn’t want to witness the massacre of hundred of people, if it was not thousand.
The fact that they were traitors didn’t stop her to feel bad for them. Death was indeed a punishment that they deserved, but it didn’t make Ranía enjoy to see it.
She scrunched her nose when she got closer to the high platform, which overlook the gallows below. Maximus was sitting mightily in his throne, while people were still there to watch until the end.
At this point, there were only five people left and when Rania reached Maximus, they executed two of them.
Maximus immediately noticed her presence and all of the warriors stepped aside to make a way for her.
“What are you doing here?” Maximus asked with a frown. “You shouldn’t be here.” He stood up to approach her and help her to sit down. The way Maximus treated Rania as if she was a porcelain, a precious, fragile thing that you needed to handle with the utmost care, unless she was going to break.
Rania chuckled when she saw Maximus’s strong response. “I am fine, you don’t need to act like that.” She stretched out her hand and smoothened the crease between Maximus’s brows.
The king leaned to his mate’s touch. He liked the sound of her voice. It was the most beautiful sound that he had ever heard. He wouldn’t get tired to listen to it.
“You shouldn’t be here, you should get some rest.”
“I have rested well. I slept like a baby for a whole day,” Rania said with a sullen expression, but she winched lightly when she sat down and this didn’t go unnoticed by Maximus, he smirked.
“Still hurt?” he asked with an innuendo. He sat down next to his mate and placed his hand on her lap, as he caressed her thigh lightly, as if he was trying to ease her pain.
“You were too much,” Rania said, her voice was barely a whisper because she didn’t want anyone to hear her. There were a few warriors around them at this moment.
“Too much? I thought I have not yet done enough, since it is rather difficult to satisfy you last night.” Maximus didn’t even have the decency to lower his voice, instead he talked casually, which made Rania glared at him.
Rania looked around, as if she was afraid these people heard what Maximus said and would look at her weirdly.
“Stop that,” Rania said with a hiss, her face turned bright red and she averted her eyes. It was a wrong move though, because she saw the last traitor was being executed, his body jerked and he peed himself.
But suddenly, her sight was covered and Maximus pulled her closer against him. He pressed her face against his chest and kissed her hair.
“I told you, you should have rested. You can ask someone to let me know if you wanted to see me.”
Rania didn’t say anything, she savored their closeness. His scent engulfed her and this was the best feeling that Rania had ever felt. Maximus was everything that she wanted and needed, she didn’t want anyone else, but him.
However, life was not that easy…
“Let’s go back.” Maximus then stood up, he took Rania’s hand and placed his arm on her waist, as the two of them walked away from the platform, down there, warriors were busy to clean up the mess and people started to disperse.
The madness of the king to hold the public punishment became the main news for a few days, many people agreed with the
harsh punishment. It would warn the other people, who harbored the idea to dethrone the king.
However, some of them showed their disappointment because the king was showing his true color again. Maximus was a madness and they still remembered how bloodthirsty the king was in the past before he met his queen, and now he showed the same trait again.
Yet, the number of the people, who disagreed with Maximus’s action was not significant, therefore it didn’t raise concern.
Maximus’s main concern right now was; the royal beta. He needed to appoint someone to be his right hand man, but it was not as easy as it sounded.
