My human is an angel. She thinks twice before saying something to people, whether it is good or bad, because she doesn’t want to make others sad. She is willing to help others even while her feet are bleeding. That is the kind of person she is.
But I am not.
I have an ability. I can foresee. Roana hates that ability, because the moment she was blessed with it-when she manifested me-she started seeing the truth behind every sweet smile, every gentle word. She saw the truth. She thought she was loved, but behind those sweet, lovely behaviors, she noticed the creeps, the cruelty, the brutality lurking beneath. The realization carved itself deep into her.
She never allowed me to use my ability to see the future. Yet sometimes, against her will, I did.
“Bring her head to me, and I will make you my comrade!” Tyran Wolffian, the Leader and Alpha King of the Northern Region, declared as we stepped on Rosetta Estelle’s chest.
“Let me take over, Roana!” I said, my voice sharp, edged with impatience.
Roana seemed to change for a few seconds. A slow smirk curved her lips, followed by a dark chuckle that sent a shiver down my spine. She was an angel to kind people, but to people like Tyran, she became a tyrant.
“We need to finish them, Rye. You are free to bathe in blood for the first time!”
I smirked, excitement rushing through my veins, my pulse pounding hard. This was the first time my human had allowed me to become bloodthirsty.
The crowd-the rogues behind the wall, the warriors standing around as if they were enjoying a night show— howled violently, their wolves shifting. Bones cracked and snapped with deep, feral growls. The scent of wolves thickened around me, heavy and suffocating. I should have felt weak in the sea of male wolves’ scent, but instead it triggered something deep inside me.
The Alpha Wolf’s instinct. Mortia. The Silver Wolves who lived for bloodbaths.
“Let me go!” Estelle snarled, struggling under Roana’s grip. But I noticed Roana’s emotions. They lacked the usual careful restraint she had when defending herself or hurting someone. She felt exactly what I felt.
Fighting. The taste of fresh blood.
“Shut up, pathetic bitch!” we both growled in unison as Roana pressed her foot harder against Estelle’s chest. “Don’t worry. I won’t kill you that soon. It’s been a while since I gave my dearest wolf a chance to be wild, Rye…” she whispered, her voice dropping. “Shift.”
That single word was enough for me to rise.
But this time, I wasn’t just a silver wolf. I was a Mortia-the identity Roana hated, yet knew she could no longer run from.

Bones cracked as our body twisted. Jaws extended, muscles tearing and reforming, fangs gleaming under the scorching heat. The freedom, the warm wind that I needed to enjoy. Finally… The darkest side of mine rose under the greed of hundreds of Rogues.
“Seriously?” the crowd gasped. “Master, you said she was a weak Omega. She is double of our size. She is a goddamn Alpha Wolf!”
I slowly stepped off Estelle, my movements graceful, deliberate. The scent of jasmine spread through the arena, sharp and intoxicating. I smirked as I grew bigger, the true size of me. A true Alpha that anyone should fear. Even… The Great Moritas.
Because, I Rye, wasn’t a simple, weak child who couldn’t handle a mere black moon flower. I was the legendary Rye, that my biological parents feared of. The Mortias feared of.
“So what?” Tyran sneered. “You weaklings can’t win against a mere she-wolf? You disgraceful toads!”
Shock rippled through them, quickly turning into rage as his words sank in.
The silence that followed Tyran’s insult was brief, brittle, like glass stretched too thin. It shattered the moment the first wolf lunged.
I felt it before I saw it. The shift in the air, the intention sharpened into violence. A rogue from the left leapt forward, claws outstretched, fangs bared. I twisted instinctively, my body moving before thought could catch up. His claws grazed my shoulder, tearing through fur and skin. Pain flared hot and bright, but it only fueled
Blood spilled. Mine, tasted metallic but warm.
The crowd roared.
Another wolf attacked from behind. I heard Roana’s breath hitch, felt her fear flicker like a dying flame, but she did not pull me back. She didn’t stop me. She let me be what I was. Because she knew that she had been keeping me behind her mask of weak person. She knew what I was and she didn’t let the world know.
“Today, the world will know us, Roana. It’s my time to shine!” I howled violently, the entire arena shaking.
Shine, Rye. After all, the future is interesting. I can’t wait to face it already!”
I smirked, “Yeah. We both love pain and rejection. Let’s face it soon!”
I turned, jaws snapping shut around the attacker’s foreleg. Bone crunched between my teeth. He screamed, a raw, animal sound, before I flung him aside. His body hit the ground with a dull thud, unmoving.
They didn’t hesitate anymore. They came in waves.
Three at once. Five, Ten. They looked under spell though they weren’t..They liked to be challenged and I wanted to be challenged.
Their howls merged into a deafening chorus, a sound meant to intimidate, to dominate. The arena filled with dust and blood and the overpowering stench of aggression. I felt smaller than them, outnumbered, surrounded on all sides. Their eyes glowed with hunger, with cruelty, with the thrill of tearing down

something they believed was weak.
I lunged forward, slashing at the nearest throat. My claws tore flesh, warm blood splashing across my muzzle. The wolf fell, choking, but before I could finish him, another slammed into my side. The impact sent me skidding across the ground.
Pain exploded through my ribs.
I hit the wall hard, the air knocked from my lungs. For a split second, everything blurred. I tasted dirt. I tasted
iron.
“Get up.”
Roana’s voice wasn’t spoken, but it pressed against my mind, desperate and steady at the same time. She commanded, like the leader she should have.
I pushed myself to my feet just as a massive wolf charged. I dodged too late. His teeth sank into my flank, ripping through muscle. I howled, the sound tearing out of me before I could stop it. I felt Roana flinch with me, her anguish echoing in my chest.
I twisted violently, snapping my jaws shut on his neck. He released me with a snarl, blood spraying as he stumbled back. I didn’t give him time to recover. I went for his throat again, biting down until the life drained from his eyes.
My legs trembled.
Blood soaked my fur, some of it mine, some of it theirs. My breaths came in ragged pants, each inhale burning like fire in my chest.
