I stood there, frozen, my feet rooted to the ground as if the earth itself re
to let me move. My gaze swept over the crowd, from she-wolves to pups clinging to their mothers’ legs. No one glared at me. No one whispered insults or hurled vile accusations. Instead, what met my eyes were trembling smiles, widened eyes filled with relief, and tears spilling freely for my return.
Their emotions hit me harder than any accusation ever could.
“Wasn’t the news of me being the Luna under a contract spread through the media?” I asked Lorenzo softer than I intended. Even he looked at me without a trace of hatred.
my voice coming out
“Yes,” he replied calmly. “But before leaving, His Majesty informed everyone that you are the true Luna Queen. Even if it’s through a contract.”
My breath caught.
My eyes widened, disbelief crashing into me like a wave. Did he really do that? Before leaving the pack… before facing danger himself? A sharp ache bloomed in my chest, tightening painfully as gratitude and sorrow tangled together. He knew. He knew I would be torn apart, humiliated, called fake and unworthy. And to shield me from that, he had already prepared everything.
My vision blurred.
Tears slipped down my cheeks before I could stop them, falling one after another as I stood in the center of the crowd. Seeing me cry only seemed to break something in them as well. Faces twisted with grief, jaws clenched, eyes reddened.
“We are sorry, Your Highness,” an elderly she-wolf said gently. Her hands trembled as she pressed them together, her voice cracking despite her effort to stay strong. “It must have been hard for you. But don’t worry. We are here. His Majesty asked us to take care of you. will never leave your side.”
“That’s right, Luna!” another voice joined in urgently. “We are here. We will protect you. Please don’t worry!”
I lifted my head slowly, my throat burning. My lips trembled as I looked at them. “Don’t you blame me?” I asked, my voice shaking despite my effort to steady it. “His Majesty was injured because of me.”
A murmur rippled through the crowd, but it wasn’t anger.
“No, Your Highness,” a warrior spoke firmly. “We live by our loyalty to our mates. His Majesty fulfilled his duty by protecting you. Now it’s time for you to live up to his sacrifice. We stand by you. Please, take over the throne. We will stay with you until His Majesty returns.”
I couldn’t speak.
Shock stole my voice as I stared at them. These were people who had never involved themselves in politics, never raised their voices in power struggles. And yet here they were, ready to place everything in my hands without hesitation. What had Cassian told them? What kind of faith had he left behind?
Just as I inhaled sharply, trying to ground myself, a voice sliced through the air like a blade.
“Take over the throne?” The crowd stiffened as it parted. “Is it a toy for whoever wants it?”
Kyros Veleric’s cold voice echoed, his presence instantly shifting the atmosphere. His gaze locked onto me, sharp and unforgiving.

“A fake Luna with no proper identity is trying to seize the throne,” he sneered, his voice rising with rage. “Are you all insane?”
“Kyros!” Lorenzo snapped, his tone dangerously cold. His jaw tightened as he stepped forward. “This decision was made by His Majesty himself. Who are you to deny it?”
“Who am I?” Kyros scoffed, his lips curling. “I am his guardian. The one who raised him.”
“You mean the one who manipulated his parents into leaving?” Lorenzo shot back. “The one who wanted to take over the throne?”
Kyros’s face flushed a violent shade of red. His hands clenched into fists. “What nonsense are you spouting?”
“Well, well,” Lorenzo said calmly, almost mockingly. “Did you think we knew nothing? Congratulations, Kyros Veleric. Your two daughters are now in our custody. They’ve been very helpful in telling us who you really are.”
Kyros froze.
The color drained from his face, his body stiffening as realization struck. His eyes darted around, calculating, desperate. Slowly, he began stepping backward.
“You can’t run,” Lorenzo smirked, advancing toward him.
“Move!” Kyros suddenly shoved the crowd aside. In front of everyone, his body twisted violently as he shifted with raw aggression.
“What the hell?” A gasp rippled through the pack. “Did he really betray His Majesty?”
Before the chaos could escalate, familiar arms wrapped around me.
“Your Highness!” Sarah cried as she hugged me tightly, her shoulders shaking. “Thank goodness. You’re safe.”
“Sarah?” My voice came out faint.
“You’ve changed,” she said, pulling back slightly, tears streaking her face. “I almost didn’t recognize you.”
Sean stepped closer, studying me carefully before offering a small, relieved smile. “You really did.”
“Thank you. I didn’t-” My words cut off abruptly.
The world tilted.
A sudden jolt shot through my body, sharp and electric. My vision spun as my knees gave out, and I collapsed onto the ground.
“Your Highness!” Sarah cried, catching me as Draken rushed over.
“Let me,” he said firmly, helping me sit up. His hands were steady, but his expression wasn’t. Everyone, including Lorenzo, stared at me with visible concern.
“What happened?” Lorenzo demanded as he hurried closer. Kyros had already took off, knowing that he was caught. People wouldn’t go easy on him for betraying the King.
Draken pressed his fingers against my wrist, his brows knitting together. “The poison is still there.”
Although they believed it was the poison, the moment Kyros shifted, his scent had slammed into me, and my vision blurred completely.
The scent of that hut invaded my senses. The memory replayed itself mercilessly.

This time, I saw a small pond surrounded by thick bushes. Candy stood there, motionless, staring toward a direction I couldn’t turn to see.
I tried to force myself to look, but a sharp pain exploded in my head, making me wince and gasp.
“Candy!” I shouted, even though I knew it was only a vision and that she was alive.
She didn’t move.
She just stood there, frozen, her gaze fixed on something unseen.
“Don’t move. Damn it-her wounds are reopening!” Draken snapped as he lifted me carefully. “Call a healer. Now!”
He moved quickly, carrying me toward the car, but my eyes remained locked on Candy. I tried to step toward her, to reach her, but my body refused to obey. Unlike before, when I could control my ability, I had lost that control completely. Visions attacked me without warning, crashing into my mind before I could brace myself.
“How is this possible?” Lorenzo asked sharply as guards worked to control the crowd. “Didn’t we give her the antidote?”
“I don’t know,” Draken replied grimly. “The poison might be stronger than we thought. After all, it was meant for Cassian.”
“No wonder,” Lorenzo muttered darkly. “Head to the hospital. Now.”
I remained trapped in the vision, unable to turn, unable to escape.
Then-
A scent struck my nostrils so sharply that my heart jolted violently.
Rye, who had been silent all this time, stirred. “Cassian!” she gasped, lifting her head inside my mind. “Cassian’s scent?”
I froze. That wasn’t possible.
You couldn’t sense a scent through a vision.
Then where… was it coming from?
