Sophie’s face, which had been calm just a moment ago, suddenly went pale.

“No!” she cried out.

Then, ice spikes came crashing down like a raging storm, looking like they’d smash Sophie flat.

Just as she was about to be crushed, a fierce gust of wind swept in and whisked her away in a blink.

Chloe’s expression hardened.

Someone had just rescued Sophie right under her nose. Whoever it was, they clearly had some serious skills.

She glanced at Ishaan, who was still rolling on the ground, clutching his crotch in pain, while the powered humans around him got ready for action.

With over a hundred powered humans here, a direct confrontation was definitely not a smart move. Chloe had already achieved her goal, so she slipped into her spiritual space and made her escape.

She wandered over to a patch of black earth in her spiritual space, snatched up a cucumber, and started crunching away.

She plucked a tomato and popped it into her mouth just as quickly.

After that, she exited her spiritual space and began wandering aimlessly through the wild brambles that covered the hills.

She couldn’t help feeling the mist was thinner than before. Maybe it was just her imagination, or maybe something was really changing.

She’d only walked a few steps when she suddenly found herself staring at a mutant zombie tiger.

She ended up in a brutal fight with a level 6 mutant zombie tiger at its peak, barely scraping by with a win, and was left completely spent.

At that moment, Chloe realized she was even stronger than she’d thought.

She found a patch of tall grass, sat down, and started tearing off pieces of rye bread while absorbing the core she’d just gotten from the mutant zombie tiger.

As the energy from the mutant zombie tiger’s core surged into her, her eyes sparkled.

‘Whoa, this energy is insanely pure!‘ Chloe thought, excitement buzzing through her.

She could not only absorb it in a flash, but it also transformed instantly into her own power.

‘Man, I feel totally rejuvenated, Chloe thought, her whole body humming with energy.

In no time, nearly 80% of her spent power was restored, and the core was only halfway depleted.

“Whoosh!” A gust of wind whipped by, carrying that blazing summer heat.

Even with the thick mist blocking out the sun, its burning rays still managed to seep through, making everything feel stifling and oppressive.

Thankfully, Chloe was an ice–powered human. Whenever she used her ice abilities, she barely felt the heat.

“Squeak, squeak, squeak…” A swarm of mutant rats blocked her way, and there were more than twenty of them, each towering at 6.5 feet tall, with eyes bulging like giant red lanterns.

“Why am I always the one you guys chase?” Chloe grumbled, feeling a bit fed up.

A trace of helplessness crossed Chloe’s face.

‘Good thing I’ve got my spatial space to duck into, Chloe thought. ‘Otherwise, dealing with these mutant beasts coming at me one after another would’ve completely drained me.

Mutant rats were the grudge–holding type, and if one was taken out, the rest would come after you with vengeance, so it was best to take out their entire lair.

Chloe snarled through clenched teeth as she fought back, “Someday, I’m gonna tear down your whole nest and drag your Rat King out myself!”

After taking down more than twenty level 5 mutant rats, Chloe was left gasping for air, her powers completely drained.

Just as she was about to catch her breath, a chill shot down her spine, as if something terrifying had locked onto her.

She slipped into her spiritual space in a flash.

The spot where she’d just been standing exploded with a deafening boom, sending sand and rocks flying everywhere, and thick smoke filled the air.

Watching everything from behind the light screen inside her spatial space, Chloe couldn’t help patting her chest in relief.

“That was way too close,‘ she thought, her heart still pounding.

At the far end of the light screen, Chloe spotted someone who looked eerily like a rat.

He had shifty, ratty eyes, his mouth was pointed and puckered just like a rat’s, and he was so skinny he looked like a walking skeleton, barely five feet tall.

Chloe couldn’t tell if he was a rat spirit who’d taken human form, or just someone who’d awakened some kind of rat ability.

Blinking his ratty eyes, he came over, and Sophie was right there with him.

Chloe narrowed her eyes.

She now understood Sophie’s power. It was mind control.

Sophie’s wounds had been bandaged up, but her face was still pale.

Her slender figure was cradled in the Rat King’s arms as he gently stroked her, his gaze utterly captivated and entranced by

her.

Sophie tried to wriggle free, but the Rat King hugged her tighter and even sneaked a couple of squeezes on her butt, clearly reluctant to let go.

“Sophie, you’re hurt. I have to hold you and I just can’t trust myself to let you go,” he said, sounding way too possessive.

She shot him a fierce glare, but her voice turned soft and teasing. “Come on, please? I need to see her die with my own eyes.

The Rat King couldn’t resist that kind of sweet, flirty begging.

He finally caved, sighing. “Fine, but you stick right by my side.”

Sophie blinked her starry eyes, looking adoring. “Okay, I promise I’ll behave!”

But when she turned away, disgust nearly appeared on her face. Thankfully, she hid it quickly, so the Rat King didn’t notice.

Seeing this, Chloe couldn’t help but suck in a sharp breath.

A level–7 powered human?‘ Chloe thought, her heart racing.

Just thinking about it made her heart pound like crazy.

‘System, check the level of that rat–faced guy outside,” Chloe said, her voice tense.

‘Alright, Host. Scanning will cost ten points, and will you proceed?” the system chimed in.

‘Go for it,” Chloe replied.

‘Scanning now,” the system responded.

As the system spoke, Chloe watched through the light screen as the Rat King suddenly seemed to sense something. He whipped his head around, his sharp gaze making her skin crawl.

‘Ratty, what are you looking at?” Sophie asked, glancing back.

She turned around, but there was nothing there.

A flicker of confusion crossed the Rat King’s face, and he puckered his lips to give her cheek a quick kiss.

Nothing, probably just my imagination,” he said.

Perhaps,” Sophie replied.

She put on her best bashful act, but deep down, she felt sick to her stomach.

Still, she had no other option, since without any power of her own, she had to rely on someone strong just to stay alive.

They quickly moved to the edge of the crater, crouched down, and looked inside. There was nothing but broken rocks and ao sign of anyone.

‘Where’d she go?” Rat King grumbled, clearly confused.

‘Did I really blast her into nothing?” he said, sounding pretty confident in his own strength.

Sophie shook her head. “No way. If she’d been blown apart, there’d be blood or something left behind. Look, it’s totally clean down there, so she definitely escaped.”

Her voice carried a hint of irritation.

The Rat King wasn’t convinced. “Nobody survives my explosions.”

Just then, the Spiritual Space System finished scanning, and Chloe was totally blown away by the results.

‘He’s actually a mutated Rat King‘ Chloe thought, her mind reeling. Just as I suspected. He really is a level–7 mutant Rat King‘

Chloe had planned to wait until the two of them left before showing herself, but then she spotted a familiar figure on the

screen.

A mutant cheetah suddenly burst out of nowhere, and trailing behind was Noah.

Noah looked pale and a little worse for wear, like he’d just survived a fierce battle.

When Sophie saw who it was, a faint blush crept across her pale cheeks.

“Mr. Fletcher, what a coincidence!” Sophie said, her voice soft and sweet, with just a hint of playful flirtation.
