Someone noticed the intent in Chloe’s gaze and stepped forward.

“We don’t mind. If you really find something good, just treat it as a wedding gift from our base chief,” the person said.

They were nothing but expendable pawns thrown into the fray out here. The energy source was never meant for them

anyway.

Even if they managed to snatch it, the base chief wouldn’t hand it over. At most, they’d get compensated somewhere else.

Chloe was a bit surprised. She hadn’t expected the powered humans to be so generous.

Still, she preferred getting things on her own terms.

“No offense, but I have no plans to get married,” Chloe said.

Then he turned and left.

Her spiritual space now had a two–hour limit again, which was plenty for her.

“Big Sis!”

An excited shout came from behind her. She didn’t even have to turn around to know who it was.

Jagger rushed over, dragging Phantom behind him, panting hard.

Jagger was covered in scratches, his clothes torn in several places. He looked like he’d just escaped from a refugee camp.

Phantom, on the other hand, was quietly sipping from a box of “milk,” perfectly clean, like she was just out for a stroll.

“What happened to you two?” Chloe asked.

“Heh, looks like Phantom and I are fated or something. I ran into her right after we got here. Some guy was hassling her. Can you believe he tried to take Phantom from me? I wiped the floor with him in a flash,” Jagger said.

As he spoke, he glanced down at his battered self, looking a bit sheepish.

“That guy was pretty tough, too. I heard he was some guardian from Radiant Base. Ha! Like that matters! He still ended up crushed by my hammer,” Jagger added.

He made it sound easy, but with how beat up he was, he must’ve gone through hell.

“Phantom, are you alright?” Chloe asked.

Phantom Zombie gave her a big, goofy grin and shook her head. “No… problem”

Chloe and her team left without looking back.

Hector shot Noah a gloating look. “Deacon, looks like you’re not wanted.”

Noah turned and gave him a frosty glare.

Hector immediately shut his mouth.

“Alright, forget I said anything.” Hector muttered.

A blinding pillar of light shot up from the heart of the island, lighting up the darkness and instantly grabbing the attention of every powered human on the island.

One by one, their eyes turned red with excitement, and they charged toward the glowing center like crazed animals.

And it wasn’t just the people, and even the mutant beasts that had been hiding couldn’t stay hidden anymore, all stirred awake by the commotion.

Deep inside an underground cave, the Rat King was all over Sophie, completely consumed by his beastly desires.

He let out sharp, high–pitched squeals, and then sank his teeth into her pale skin, blood instantly oozing out.

His eyes were wild with frenzy.

Sophie’s face was ghostly pale, her whole body trembling nonstop. Her voice was gone from begging, but the Rat King showed no mercy.

Just when she thought she was going to die at the Rat King’s hands, a blinding flash of light suddenly burst overhead. The Rat King froze in place.

“Shit,” Chloe murmured, her heart skipping a beat.

He scrambled to pull on his clothes, baring his teeth in panic, then scooped up Sophie and dashed out of the cave.

Sophie let out a blood–curdling scream. “No! Wait, let me get dressed first, please!”

The Rat King actually listened for once. He found a ragged piece of cloth, wrapped it around her, and carried her up toward the surface.

By the time they arrived, the whole place was soaked in blood, a chaotic battle raging all around.

For the first time ever, humans banded together to take on the mutant beasts.

Mutant beasts seemed to come out of thin air, swarming in endless waves, enough to send chills down anyone’s spine.

With easy access to the underground energy source, the mutant beasts had absorbed far more power, and their levels far surpassed those of the humans.

Humans were on the losing end, with countless casualties and rivers of blood flowing everywhere.

Jagger swung two massive spiked hammers, each weighing a ton. Every time he brought one down, a Level 6 mutant beast was smashed into pieces on the spot.

Chloe’s jaw dropped, as she was completely stunned.

‘Sheesh, this guy’s just as much of a brute as I remember, Chloe thought.

“Big Sis, Phantom, stay behind me! I swear, I won’t let those beasts lay a finger on you, Jagger shouted

Phantom didn’t react at first, but after finishing her milk, she licked her lips, craving more.

She slowly lifted her head, as if just noticing the brutal fight raging around her. Bodies were dropping like flies, blood flooding the ground like pure hell out there.

Her dull eyes suddenly sparkled as she started drooling like crazy

She shot a look at Chloe, who nodded in return. In the next instant. Phantom tore into the mutant beast horde like a wild wolf that hadn’t eaten in days

Jagger nearly jumped out of his skin.

Phantom, that’s dangerous” he shouted.

Chloe’s mouth twitched in disbelief.

Does this guy even realize how strong the Phantom Zombie is? Even though she’s only late Level 6, she can still take down a Level 7 mutant beast, Chloe thought.

Her killing power was off the charts

But what really made her terrifying was her speed, and she was almost impossible to catch.

Sure enough, the moment Phantom Zombie dashed into the beast horde, she disappeared from Jagger’s sight. He hacked his way through the chaos, panic written all over his face.

All he wanted was to find his supposedly delicate little wife.

Chloe glanced around. The mutant beasts were moving in a coordinated way, almost as if they were organized, all guarding the area where the pillar of light was shining.

It seemed they’d developed some sentience and knew that the energy source was precious and couldn’t let it slip away.

The system’s excited voice echoed in Chloe’s mind. “Host, hurry up! Use your spiritual space to collect the new energy, quick!”

“Obviously,” Chloe muttered.

Chloe rode the wind, propelling herself forward at breakneck speed. As she neared the pillar of light shooting into the sky, her powers buzzed with excitement, practically itching to break free.

I felt far better than absorbing a core.

That’s it. The energy source! Chloe realized.

Chloe narrowed her eyes as she watched the mutant beasts packed in tight circles around the pillar of light. Without hesitation, she vanished into her spiritual space in a blink.

She materialized right beside the pillar. By the time the mutant beasts noticed her, she’d already made her move and jumped down.

“Awooo. They let out a low growl.

The mutant cheetah went wild, charging at her with ferocious speed.

‘Damn it, Maria, you’d better not die on me,’ Noah thought.

Noah was stunned for a split second, but his body moved before his mind could process it. He blasted through the crowd like a bullet and dove into the glowing curtain after her.

Once someone managed to break through a gap, the rest of the powered humans gave it everything they had to force their way in.

But those berserk mutant beasts were no pushovers. Up against the claws of the Level 7 mutant beasts, the powered humans were shredded like paper, and getting slaughtered was as easy as slicing through butter.

The carnage was brutal, and nearly everyone got slaughtered.

Before Chloe jumped, she’d already tied a black cloth over her eyes to avoid getting blinded by the intense light.

She was counting on the system for every move.

The points she’d saved up over the past six months were dropping like crazy, disappearing in real time.

“Left, forward, yeah, right there…” the system shrieked excitedly.

The system was practically screaming in exhilaration.

“Place your right hand on the ground. Hurry, collect it!” the system urged.

“Just ahead on your right, there’s a horned Black Snake King, a Level 8 mutant beast!” the system warned.

Before the system finished speaking, Chloe pressed her right hand to the ground and murmured, “Collect.”

She and the solid ground vanished together, entering her spiritual space.

Inside her spiritual space, it was always daytime, so even the brightest white light couldn’t hurt her eyes or blind her.

Chloe let out a shaky breath, patting her chest in relief, then glanced toward the direction of the endless wild mountains.

It looked like a new energy vein had appeared there, shining so brightly it outshone even the daytime sun.

The glowing area was massive, almost as big as the entire Lakeside.
