My back gently pressed against the cold stone wall. His palm cushioned the back of my head, and his tall frame completely enveloped me, shutting out the outside world. In the darkness, our breaths mingled. The faint aroma of wine intertwined with the crisp, piney scent on him, stoking an alluring sense of anticipation.

“Mr. Sanchez, what’s wrong?” I murmured, still a bit dazed.

“Someone was there just now,” he whispered in a low voice in my ear. His emerald eyes glinted like a predator’s in the dark.

Fragments of moonlight filtered through the colorful stained-glass window at the end of the corridor. The corner where we were hiding seemed to exist outside the world. Without the light, his chiseled face looked even more profound. His strong Alpha aura surrounded me, making my heart pound.

“So… is there no one now?” I barely managed to whisper.

“Yeah,” he replied, his Adam’s apple bobbing. His lips slowly moved closer again.

The air turned stiff, with only our gentle breaths audible. I obediently closed my eyes, and my hand on his waist tightened involuntarily.

However, an untimely glow from a phone and its ringing shattered the romantic atmosphere, like a bucket of cold water. It was Fiona.

I instinctively pushed him away and answered the call, my voice still a bit breathless. “I’m okay. I’ll be back right away.”

After hanging up, I blushed and looked at Leonardo. In the shadows, his expression was hard to read. He just turned slightly to the side, exuding an air of unfulfilled desire.

“Mr. Sanchez, since you’re here, go in and say hi to everyone,” I said, reaching out to take his firm arm, trying to ease the awkwardness.

Leonardo seemed a bit surprised but didn’t refuse. He let me lead him back to the private room. Just before we reached the door, he took control, pulling me to his side with a firm arnt and almost half- embracing me as we walked in.

“Leon? You’re here, too! Come and sit down!” Steve stood up in surprise when he saw Leonardo.

Leonardo nodded slightly. His usually cold voice had a gare touch of warmth. “Hey Uncle Steve, and everyone else. I just got back to Maritime City tonight-sorry I’m late.” His eyes landed on me involuntarily, and I happened to be looking at him. Our eyes met, and I noticed a faint blush on his ears.

“Come on, Leon. Have a drink with me! We’ve seen how well your future mate can hold her liquor. You can’t be outdone!” Steve enthusiastically offered a glass.

“Uncle Steve…” Leonardo hesitated. He never liked socializing, especially since he’d driven here.

But before he could refuse, I squeezed his arm slightly and instinctively said, “Mr. Flemming, let me toast you on Mr. Sanchez’s behalf. He just recovered from an illness and isn’t fit to drink yet.”

Leonardo’s POV:

With a soft, tipsy lilt, her voice was like a gentle caress on my heart. That on Mr. Sanchez’s behalfTM held an unspoken protectiveness, warming and soothing my heart. I found myself unconsciously pressing my lips together, as a powerful current of warmth threatened to break down my self-control.

“Just recovered from illness? Can’t have a drink then!” Steve let out a booming laugh, his tone full of kind- hearted ribbing. “As expected, a mate always looks out for their other half! Leon, you’d better treat Natalie right. Mess up, and we won’t stand for it!”

Natalie blushed deeper, like a perfectly ripe cherry. It seemed she’d just realized how forward she’d been and tried to pull her hand back. But I quickly clasped her cool fingers, not giving her a chance to pull away

“Uncle Steve, you’re right. I’ll take good care of her. I murmured, the tenderness in my voice even surprising me. With that, I took the glass of wine from her hand, the one meant for toasting
