Lily struggled free from my grip and turned around. Her face was flushed with humiliated anger, but her eyes held more fear.
She asked, “Mr. Scott, what do you want from me?” Her voice trembled, yet she tried to sound firm.
“Why are you so tense?” I shrugged. I used my bandaged hand to lift her chin, forcing her to meet my gaze. “I just thought it was stuffy inside. I wanted you to get some air and remind you of our little secret.”
“Please, just leave me alone,” she pleaded. Her gaze was icy, but her shaky voice betrayed her.
“Leave you alone?” I chuckled, my fingertip tracing her delicate skin. “I haven’t done anything to you. Last night, didn’t you ‘enjoy’ it, too?”
I deliberately emphasized the word “enjoy,” pleased to see her whole body flinch. She felt goosebumps rising all over her skin, not merely from anger, but from profound shame.
“I don’t remember anything.” She bit her lip so hard it nearly bled.
That spot of crimson irritated me. I instinctively reached out and wiped the blood away with my thumb. “It’s fine if you don’t remember,” I said coolly, looking at the blood on my finger. “I remember.”
I told her that if she behaved, I would leave her alone and treat her well. She kept playing dumb, saying she would do her job and didn’t need my favor.
My patience ran out. I laid it out plainly. “Stop following Natalie. Follow me instead. Whether you want to work seriously or just want money, I can provide it.”
His eyes widened in shock, as if she’d heard the most terrifying thing. The next second, she exploded with surprising strength, shoving me away and scrambling out from under me. She fled a few steps like a startled rabbit, then turned and shouted at me, trying to sound brave, “I won’t betray Natalie! If you try to blackmail me with this, I’ll report you for rape!”
I leisurely straightened my sleeve, wrinkled from her struggle. Without looking up, my voice turned cold. “Go ahead. Report me. But do you have any proof? Will the scandal be something you, your ill mother, and your younger brother can bear? Or could it possibly harm me in the slightest?”
Watching her pale face, I knew I had hit her weak spot. Everyone had a pressure point.
“Lily, I’ll give you time to think,” I said, taking a step forward. My pheromones pressed down on her, full of
with menace. “Think carefully about your family. Natalie is just your boss, not your kin. She can’t help you this. In the werewolf corporate world, there’s no permanent protection. If you have no value yourself, being discarded or becoming a burden is inevitable. You have to be responsible for yourself.”
She stood rigid, her eyes filled with struggle and despair. I didn’t push further. I watched as she finally turned without a word and stumbled back towards the banquet hall. I knew the seed was planted. Watching her stubborn, retreating figure, my nasty desire for conquest swelled. This game was getting more and more interesting.

Back in the noisy banquet hall, I felt all my strength leave me. Samuel’s words weighed heavily on my chest. “Think about your family. Being discarded is inevitable.” He had precisely targeted my most vulnerable spot.
The air was so thick with powerful Alpha and Omega pheromones that I, a lowly Beta, struggled to breathe. I sat back down next to Natalie, trying hard to appear normal. The pain from my own nails digging into my thighs was the only thing keeping me somewhat grounded.
Natalie leaned over and asked softly if I was feeling unwell, telling me I didn’t have to force myself and could leave early. She radiated a gentle, reassuring scent. She always protected me like this.
