Chapter 200 The Trap She Set

Samuel’s POV:

Lily, that seemingly docile, harmless, even somewhat timid woman, actually dared to screw me over? How utterly fascinating! In all my years navigating the corporate world and manipulating people with case, this was the first time a woman-especially a seemingly non- threatening Beta werewolf-had ever played me. It was a direct insult to my competence!

“How dare she?” I muttered under my breath, unable to reach her by phone. All my messages were blocked. I couldn’t swallow this.

Irritated, I loosened my tie and strode toward the elevator lobby. I needed to find her immediately and make her understand the cost of messing with me. But halfway there, Natalie intercepted me.

“Mr. Scott,” she said, blocking my path. “Don’t we have a meeting with the partners soon? Where are you off to in such a hurry?” She was dressed in a chic black-and-white checkered dress. She wore five-inch black heels with red soles, her long hair pulled back neatly. She exuded a captivating, bold charm.

Her face wore a seemingly gentle and harmless smile, but the warmth didn’t reach her eyes, making me feel strangely cold. Her growth had been staggering-she grew more formidable by the day.

I quickly adjusted my expression, a flawless, practiced smile spreading across my lips. “I just had something to handle. But you’re right. The meeting is starting soon. It can wait.”

We walked side-by-side into the scheduled conference room. I had purposely chosen this one near the common area. The soundproofing was mediocre, and any commotion would spread through the company fast.

Natalie subtly scanned the room, the faint, knowing smirk on her lips deepening. She saw right through my intention.

“I heard Lily resigned?” I took a seat, glanced at the time-twenty minutes before the scheduled meeting with the Richardson Group-and tried to pry for information, my gaze locked on her.

“Yes, she expressed that intention. But I haven’t approved it yet,” Natalie replied, looking at her phone, her voice utterly flat. “When an employee resigns, I need to understand the reason.”

“Lily is a very obedient girl. She’s hardworking and has strong performance. She wouldn’t just resign without cause,” Natalie continued leisurely. “The Scott Group takes resignations seriously. According to policy, if we suspect an employee faced unfair treatment, was bullied by senior leadership, or had other special hidden reasons, we can launch an internal investigation. HR would handle it rigorously. I’m preparing to look into it first.”
