Chapter 319 From Heartbreak
Natalie’s POV:
After a sleepless night, I was supposed to take the day off. But staying alone in the apartment with Leonardo’s scent but no sign of him was pure torture. So, I dragged my exhausted body to the office instead.
A few pack collaboration projects had meetings scheduled today. Since I had nothing else to do, I decided to sit in.
But through the entire day of meetings, I barely absorbed a thing.
When Lily brought me the meeting reports, I stared at the data and summaries, feeling completely detached from them.
“Natalie, weren’t you taking a few days off? What are you doing here today?” Lily asked, immediately sensing something was off.
“Just had some loose ends to tie up,” I replied flatly.
“You look awful,” she said, her voice full of concern. Her eyes fell on my hand, which I was trying to keep hidden. “What happened to your hand?”
“Nothing. Just cut myself while cooking yesterday,” I answered dismissively.
“Mr. Sanchez must have been so upset!” Lily said, her tone a mix of admiration and certainty. “You have staff and a chef at home. Hands like yours are made for signing important documents and calling the shots, not for chores like that.”
“Yeah.” I could only manage a weak smile in response.
Lily continued, “Maybe you should just go home and rest? I’ll pull out the key points from today’s meeting notes and send them to you whenever you’re ready.”
“Thanks, Lily. I’ll head out a bit later.” I did want to rest.
It was just… Leonardo was gone. The person I wanted to be with wasn’t there. Staying at home had become its own kind of agony.
Coming to the office was just a distraction.
Lily reminded me to take care of myself and left.
Quiet settled over the office.
I slumped over my desk in defeat, pulling out my phone
The screen was dark-no new messages, no missed calls.
Was Leonardo resting properly now?
With Fiona and the others around, he was surely being well taken care of.
I should have been furious. But the emotions swirling in my head were mostly worry and uncase.
I even began to regret getting angry with Leonardo last night.
But…
He wasn’t feeling well, but was I feeling any better?
What did he mean by “if you regret it now, we can stop here”?
What did he mean by “giving you a chance to leave”?
Natalie had always been someone I looked up to. In my mind, her beautiful hands shouldn’t be making dinner for anyone-not even for Leonardo.
I could tell Natalie wanted to be alone. I swallowed my concern, reminded her to take care of herself, and left.
Leonardo’s POV:
I couldn’t focus on work at all in the apartment.
The doctor came for a routine check-up. He said my heart rate was irregular and my breathing was unsteady.
Aaron grew extremely anxious beside me. “Mr. Sanchez has been doing well these past few days. There shouldn’t be any major issues, right?”
“Has he been taking his medication on time?” the doctor asked.
Aaron answered, “Yes, the medication is on schedule. Mrs. Sanchez calls me every day to confirm.”
“That’s strange. Yesterday’s bloodwork looked normal. Are you experiencing any discomfort?” the doctor asked again.
“Yes,” I said quietly, my hand instinctively reaching for my phone. “Chest tightness. Shortness of breath. A dull ache.” The physical discomfort was real-my chest felt tight, like it was being squeezed. But I knew this wasn’t from my old injuries.
Even though I had prepared myself for the possibility of Natalie leaving… even though I had said those words… I wanted to take it all back right now.
When Victoria left, I hadn’t even blinked. Was this my payback?
The doctor said, “That shouldn’t be happening. How about I prescribe some painkillers? But don’t overuse them. Just take them sparingly. I still recommend plenty of rest and quiet.”
Aaron chimed in, “Could it be, you know, more of a heartache issue?” Aaron knew me best. He could tell my condition wasn’t from illness, but from heartbreak.
