Chapter 396 You Don’t Understand

Over the years, the Kellys had let Chloe’s potential go to waste, and she’d managed to offend quite a few people in their social circle.
Now Chloe felt uncomfortable staying with the Kelly family.
But wouldn’t life be even harder without Abigail’s inheritance and the Kelly family’s protection?
How long could she rely on Liam?
Would Liam ever really marry her?
With just a few dismissive words, the Kelly family had nearly shattered Chloe’s resolve.
Once again, she grabbed Liam’s arm. “Liam, thank you. But… you should go.”
Liam was usually even-tempered, but seeing Chloe so defeated made him almost as angry as when he’d seen the Kelly family bully her.
He started to loosen his grip, but seeing her red-rimmed eyes, he tightened it again.
“Chloe,” he said, “I’m only asking this: do you want to leave the Kelly family? Do you want to come with me?”
Chloe couldn’t meet his gaze. Hearing the rare, undisguised emotion in his voice, she suddenly turned cowardly.
She didn’t answer.
Eleanor couldn’t help but smirk.
Chloe really was the epitome of “all bark, no bite.” Eleanor wanted to have her phone to capture this pathetic display.
She thought Chloe was so tough at home, but nothing in front of Liam.
“Liam, you can leave now. It seems my daughter doesn’t want to go with you.” Michael’s voice held a hint of mockery. Both he and Hannah relaxed.
Liam’s brow was furrowed. He let go of Chloe’s hand.

I kept my head down. Hearing Liam’s footsteps fade away felt like a heavy weight settling in my heart, crushing my foolish, shameful hopes.
I was never a likable person.
I didn’t even like myself.
How could someone like Liam stay with someone like me?
I trusted Liam, but I couldn’t trust myself.
Just as I sank from disappointment into despair, Liam’s jacket fell over my shoulders. His warm hand gripped my arm once more.
He said, “No answer means yes. Unless you tell me no, I’m taking you with me today.”
I looked
up, startled. Liam pulled me firmly against his side and began leading me away.
My legs seemed to move on their own, obediently following him downstairs.
Michael was furious and called out to me again.
But before I could react, Liam also turned to look at him.
“Oh, please return Chloe’s phone.” Liam held out his hand.
Michael hesitated, gritted his teeth, and reluctantly handed over my phone.
But then he said to me, “Are you really leaving with him? Do you understand what you’ll face once you step out of this house?”
My mind was already in chaos. But before I could answer, Liam firmly pulled me out of the Kelly Villa.
He gave me no room to hesitate, no chance to reconsider.
When we stepped outside, the night wind hit us-cold and sharp-and a sudden, overwhelming sense of freedom washed over me.
But that feeling lasted mere seconds before it was crushed again by looming shadows.
I came back to myself and pulled my hand from Liam’s grip.
“Liam, that’s enough. You should go.” As I said, I felt despicable,
I desperately wanted Liam to stay with me.

Yet when he actually did, I couldn’t accept it.

Liam looked at me. He adjusted his slipping glasses and grabbed my hand again, practically dragging me to his car.
I shouted, “Liam… what are you doing? I can’t go to your place. If your father finds out…”
“My father is my concern. If you don’t want to go to my home, we’ll go somewhere else.” Liam was uncharacteristically insistent.
He started the car and drove off at speed, as if trying to put as much distance as possible between the Kelly Villa and us.
He drove to another district, checked us into a suite at one of his family’s hotels.
It was very late. I didn’t resist anymore.
But once inside the room, I saw that Liam showed no sign of leaving.
I thought he was just making sure I was settled, but seeing him loosen his collar and turn toward the bathroom made me nervous.
“Liam, aren’t you going home?” I asked.
He said, “If I go home, what about you? Go back to the Scott Group tomorrow morning, then return to the Kelly Villa tonight to apologize?”
I hesitated, not answering.
Did I have any
other choice?
Natalie had finally given me this opportunity. Could I really throw it away?
How could I just hand my mother’s inheritance over to the Kelly family?
Besides, I’d endured years of living with them. Leaving the Grayclaw Pack now would only leave me more lost about the future.
“Chloe, if something needs to be done, do it now-otherwise, you might never get around to it. If you really want to leave the Grayclaw Pack, you shouldn’t wait until everything is perfectly arranged.” Liam’s words were reasonable. I understood them.
But I still turned away. “You’re not me. You don’t understand.”
