Chapter 371 Leaving Him Far Behind

Ayla was exhausted. A flash of strong disgust flickered in her eyes.

She slammed the gas pedal and sped up hard. Even on the mountain highway, she dared to take sharp turns at high speed. The car felt like part of her body; for anyone to watch, it would have looked terrifying. One small mistake, and the car would be wrecked.

But Ayla stayed calm and in full control. After a few tight turns, Troy was far behind her.

She just wanted him gone. As far away as possible.

Ayla kept her foot on the gas until the road leveled out downhill. Only then did she slow down.

She tilted her head slightly.

Draven looked unwell. Driving this fast on winding mountain roads could make anyone dizzy and sick.

Ayla knew this from experience.

She reached into the car and pulled out a bottle of mineral water, then handed it to him.

“Take a few sips. It’ll help with the nausea.”

Draven took the bottle and drank. His Adam’s apple moved as he swallowed. Ayla didn’t plan to ask anything, but he suddenly spoke. “My mom is leaving soon. She wants us to stop by her place together. Come with me.”

Ayla paused. She was tired and just wanted to go home and sleep. But this was part of their agreement, and she had to follow through.

“Okay.” Then she asked, “We’re just stopping by, fight? Then we go home?”

“Yeah,” Draven replied. “She doesn’t even want to see me. Once she sees us, we’ll leave.”

Draven took out his phone and sent Kayla a message. “Ayla and I are on our way to your place. Keep us there overnight.”

Kayla replied instantly. “Got it.”

Just now, Ayla seemed like she was fighting alone but with Draven there, she felt more confident.

Even though she was tired, going to see Kayla with him didn’t feel stressful at all.

“Ms. Kayla’s easy to get along with,” Ayla said. “Mostly because you’re there.”

After telling Kayla why he was bringing Ayla, Draven entered the address into the navigation. As the car moved forward, he said quietly, “I’m different than Troy.”

Ayla paused and didn’t answer.

Draven had already seemed off back at the estate. She guessed why. He had seen with his eyes how badly she had lived during those three years. Whether he had feelings for her or not, even as a friend, he would be angry for her.

Now that he said he was different from Troy, it only proved she was right.

“I know,” Ayla said softly.

Draven noticed her discomfort with the topic right away. His gaze grew deeper.

Earlier, with him present, Ayla had mentioned how she once wanted to get to know Troy. She hadn’t said she regretted it. Even now, she didn’t deny her past.

She owned her choices. When she loved someone, she loved openly. Even if it ended badly, she accepted the result.

Many people are afraid of getting hurt and never act. Ayla wasn’t like that. She knew what she wanted.

When it came to feelings, everything had to wait until Ayla was willing. She could never be pushed.

Draven wanted badly to tell her how he felt right now, but he held back. He didn’t want something brief. He wanted a lifetime with her.

He could wait.

Draven explained calmly, “Don’t overthink it. Troy’s attitude toward you was awful. Calling him a jerk wouldn’t be wrong, I only said that because I wanted to draw a clear line with him

Ayla let out a breath. “I finally see it clearly now. The divorce was the right choice.”

She looked straight ahead, then turned her head and glanced at him quickly.

The powerful CEO was back to the warm, familiar version she knew.

Ayla looked away. “I asked you to stay with me, and you stayed. How can you be this good?”

Draven answered seriously, “You said I’m a good person. I can’t let you be wrong about that.”

Ayla smiled. “You’ve seen the worst parts of my past, and honestly, I feel relieved. I don’t have to hold myself together in front of you anymore I can just be myself.” She paused, then said softly. “Draven, that was probably my ugliest side.”

That was only half true. What she didn’t say was that after her mother passed away, those days were the most painful, helpless, and confusing time of her life.

She wouldn’t show her real pain easily.

Ayla wasn’t going to let Draven see that part.

Still, opening up even a little was enough. It helped them understand each other better and lower their guard.

Now that Draven knew her secret, Ayla felt less defensive around him.

Many things became easier to talk about. Even Troy was no longer a forbidden topic.

“You asked me before why I know how to cook,” Ayla said. “I learned it for Troy.”

She lifted her hand to show him. “These scars are all from cooking.”

Draven lowered his eyes. A sharp, dark emotion flashed through them. He had guessed the truth before, but hearing it confirmed made jealousy surge inside him.

Troy’s behavior disgusted him. A man like that had once received Ayla’s pure, unconditional love. The same love Draven wanted but could not have yet. The thought made him feel awful.

Suddenly, he reached out and grabbed Ayla’s hand.
