“All right, Kayla,” Ayla said.

Kayla nodded and went to prepare what Ayla would need. She gave instructions to the staff, but every detail showed how thoughtful she was.

Soon, only Ayla and Draven were left in the side lounge. Ayla couldn’t help looking at him a few more times.

Draven asked, “Why are you staring at me?”

“Your mom said you’re handsome,” Ayla replied. So I’m taking a good look.”

She looked him up and down. “You’re a bit stiff, Mr. Storm. Don’t forget, I’m your girlfriend

now.”

Draven froze for a second. His gaze grew deeper “Yes,” he said quietly. “My girlfriend.”

Ayla stood up and walked around the room, taking in the décor. The drive there had been tiring, but now she didn’t feel tired at all.

The place made her feel calm and comfortable. She felt like she could rest right away. She didn’t even feel the stress of driving back.

Before long, the staff prepared all the toiletries Ayla and Draven would need for the night. Kayla told them to go relax in their room.

Then, a small interruption happened.

Elizabeth walked over and said to Kayla, “Ms. Melody is here to see you. She bought one of Henry’s student paintings and brought it here as a gift.”

“I won’t see her,” Kayla said calmly. “Take the painting and send her away.”

Kayla knew Melody had feelings for Draven. She already found the girl a bit childish. More importantly, Ayla was here. Ayla came first. Kayla wouldn’t let Ayla feel uncomfortable in her

home.

Elizabeth went to handle it.

Outside the villa.

“Ms. Howell, Ms. Storm is not available to see you,” Elizabeth said. She gave no explanation.

Melody didn’t dare to push it. It would be a surprise if Kayla agreed to see her. She quickly

nodded. “Since I’m already here,” Melody said, handing over the gift, “please take this.”

Elizabeth accepted it without hesitation.

Kayla loved art. When she was younger, she liked classic works. These days, she preferred fresh ideas from young artists. Every year, if she liked a graduate’s work from an art school, she would buy it.

After Elizabeth went back inside, Melody got into her car. She turned to the woman beside her, who looked delicate and polished from head to toe. “Ms. Storm didn’t have time to see me, as expected,” Melody said. “But at least the painting you helped me get was delivered. This trip wasn’t for nothing.”

Fabiola Nixon smiled. “We didn’t waste our time to make the trip; that’s already something to be happy about.”

“Exactly,” Melody said brightly. “I’m glad she accepted my gift. At least Ms. Storm didn’t ignore me completely like Draven does. After I complained to you so much last time, you flew over just to be with me. I really love you.”

Fabiola gently patted her head. “If you’re just his secretary,” she said, “don’t overthink things.”

Ayla and Draven were a “couple”, so naturally they stayed in the same room. Kayla personally walked them there. Before leaving, she told Ayla to let Draven handle anything she needed and not to be shy at all.

After Kayla left, Draven looked at Ayla. She was still smiling from Kayla’s warm attention. But in his mind, he saw Kayla’s colder side.

He couldn’t help but remind her, “Don’t be fooled by her warmth.”

Ayla teased him lightly. “Wow. She just walked out, and you’re already tearing her down. That’s some mother-son loyalty.”

Draven replied seriously, “You’ll be disappointed one day.”

Ayla didn’t answer. She gently touched the bracelet Kayla had insisted on putting on her

wrist.

She had learned about gemstones when she was young. This emerald bracelet was top quality. For someone like Kayla, giving it away was nothing.

After meeting Kayla twice, Ayla had formed a clear picture of her.

From her past and her present, Kayla was clearly independent, ambitious, and capable.

Judging by how she treated Draven, she was sharp in both work and life. Decisive. Strong. Not someone easily questioned.

Years had passed. Kayla had been through storms and struggles. Her career was stable, and she held real power. She had the power to say no. She had freedom. She no longer needed sharp edges to protect herself. She could act however she wanted, without hiding anything.

That kind of calm came from conquering countless hardships in life. So even if Kayla cared about Ayla’s past, her tolerance was real. Only someone deeply confident could be like that.

But Ayla had also seen Kayla’s cold side.

In just two meetings, Kayla had given her a lot of money. Ayla didn’t deny that this showed care. Kayla didn’t mind expressing affection with money.

But for wealthy people, money was the easiest thing to give. And sometimes, giving money also meant taking the easy way out. That feeling-Draven understood it best.

When a child is hurt, and a parent doesn’t offer comfort or support but tries to fix it with money, it can never be called responsible.

Ayla had grown up with a loving mother. She was sensitive to how adults treated her. She could tell what was real care and what wasn’t.

She wouldn’t fall for sweet gestures just because she had received a couple of gifts, things that she would one day return to Draven anyway.

Still, saying all this out loud would tear open Draven’s old wounds.

And it would also be disrespectful to Kayla.

So, Ayla spoke calmly. “Mr. Storm, you’re overthinking it. Your mom is kind to me because I’m your girlfriend. She’s doing it for your sake. You saw how she treated Melody just now, didn’t you?”
