Ayla looked at him. “Or do you think your mom is doing all this to easily win me over?”
He had thought about it.
Kayla clearly had mixed feelings about Ayla. Yet on the surface, she was very kind. To Draven, that kindness didn’t feel fully sincere. When the truth comes out later, it could hurt. That was why he wanted to warn Ayla.
Since he didn’t deny it, Ayla smiled. “Mr. Storm, you’re judging others by your experience,” she said. “Maybe the things you said to warn me were really meant for yourself. Kayla is your mother. When she treats you well, you can’t help but hope. But I know she has disappointed you before; that kind of disappointment hurts, so you’re worried I’ll feel the same way.”
Then she softened her tone and added, “Kayla is your mother, not mine. I don’t expect anything from her emotionally. So don’t worry. I won’t get hurt.”
Ayla liked warm and positive relationships. But right now, she didn’t feel like she lacked love.
Real love was precious. It wasn’t something you could demand.
So, she never forced others to be good to her.
Being good to herself was the one thing she could always do.
Her words hit Draven hard. His heart started racing. For the first time, the way he looked at her became complicated.
If she hadn’t said it out loud, he wouldn’t have realized it. His worry came from his dark past. Ayla was different from him.
And somehow, she understood him far too well.
After speaking, Ayla calmly went to look around Draven’s room.
The space was large, with two main areas: a living area and a bedroom.
The living area was beautiful the moment you walked in.
The fridge was full of food and drinks. There was a large TV and a desk.
The bedroom had only one bed, but it was big.

Beyond that were a walk-in closet and a bathroom.

The closet was full of clothes, even women’s clothes. Ayla glanced at them. They looked brand new, probably clothes Kayla hadn’t had time to wear yet. Ayla was a little taller than Kayla and with a similar build. She could easily wear them.
The bathroom had new toiletries and even makeup.
Ayla finally felt relaxed. She could really rest now.
When she came back out, Draven was still standing where he had been.
“What’s wrong?” she asked.
Draven wondered if Ayla, being so sharp, had seen through him. Had she noticed that he did this on purpose tonight?
He chose not to ask.
All he wanted was to stay in the same room with her tonight.
He looked at her deeply and said in a low voice, You’re right. I was thinking too much.”
Ayla smiled. “That just means you care about me”
Draven pressed his lips together. Ayla was generous with her praise, never holding back.
Was it because she knew about his childhood? Was she comforting him in her own quiet way?
Before he could think further, Ayla asked, “Do you want to wash up first, or should I go first?”
Draven didn’t expect the topic to change so fast. He froze for a second.
Ayla raised an eyebrow. “What? Don’t tell me you want to shower together?”
Hearing that, Draven was sure of it now.
She was teasing him on purpose, helping him shift his thoughts. Normally, she would never say something like this.
These little, half-hidden gestures of hers always made his heart race.
Draven stayed restrained, though his eyes were probably already stuck on her. He smiled lightly. “How can a good man act like a creep?”
Ayla lifted her brow again. “So you’re accepting the good guy label now?”

Draven nodded. “I’ll gladly take it.”
Ayla laughed. “Mr. Storm has an image to protect. Look at me, I don’t have one.”
Draven joked about himself, “We’re living together; I can’t annoy you.”
Ayla looked at him with clear appreciation. “No matter how I look at you, you’re not annoying. You’re different from Troy.”
Draven smiled, his voice soft. “Then I’ll try my best not to get kicked out.”

This time, Ayla really laughed. She couldn’t stop herself. She had already been relaxed, and that laugh brought all the energy she had lost at the estate back.
She gave Draven a light push. “Go wash up already. When you’re done, I’ll go. Then we can sleep.”
She even let out a big yawn to match her words.
Draven had no reason to refuse. He picked up his pajamas and went to the bathroom. The sound of the shower was loud, blocking out everything else.
To be precise, he couldn’t hear her at all.
There was no need to overthink things. Still, just to be safe, he showered in cold water.
Ayla curled up on the couch and casually turned on a classic movie. Soon, she heard the door
open.
She turned her head. Draven walked out with damp hair, wrapped in a long black robe.
His build was tall and strong, giving off a sense of safety but also a quiet pressure that was impossible to ignore.
Ayla reminded herself again. She was spending the night in the same room as him.
“You didn’t dry your hair again?” she said, standing up.
She looked at the water dripping from his hair. The drops slid down his long neck and disappeared into the collar of his robe, creating an unexpected moment of tension.
Draven looked at her. “I didn’t want to make you wait too long.”
Ayla smiled openly. “All right. Then I’ll go wash up now.”
