The only one losing out was Ayla. She was wasting her time and energy on him. It was a total loss.
Her silence made Troy’s face grow darker. “Why are you not talking? Do you feel sorry for him? Speak.”
“I have nothing to say to you. Do you hear me?” Ayla said.
“Good. Very good.”
Ayla stayed on guard while watching the direction of the car. She was not familiar with the area. That feeling of losing control was terrible. Staying passive like this was not a solution.
This time was different from before. Last time, Troy openly said he wanted to continue the marriage, and she could stall him for a few days. Now she had to understand what he really wanted this time if she was going to respond.
She asked, “What exactly do you still want to talk about regarding the divorce?”
That pulled Troy’s attention away from Noah, but his expression did not soften. It turned colder, sharp with anger at being defied. “Ayla, that day you went to the Winstons and set me up, then walked away with Draven. Do you not owe me an explanation?”
“Fine. Here is my explanation.” Ayla’s face was calm and direct. “You hid the divorce from your family, so I had to endure Carmen acting like a cruel mother in law. You saw it with your own eyes and did nothing. Those are the consequences of you refusing to bring up divorce. Since you would not say it, I said it for you. I let the Winstons know and had Martin rein you in, because I did not want to be harassed anymore. Are you satisfied with that explanation?”
She made no effort to hide her disgust or her urgency to cut ties.
Troy’s face stiffened. He understood. He felt it. He just refused to accept it. He clenched his teeth. “So it is because I did not defend you…”
“What are you twisting this into, Troy?” Ayla cut. “Divorce means divorce. Do you not understand? You do not want to divorce because you do not want to. You always think from your own point of view, but I am the one bearing the consequences. Carmen causing trouble for me is the best example. Only when the Winsons all know we are divorced do I stop being your daughter in law. Then Carmen has no reason to mock me. And most importantly, you and I are no longer husband and wife. We are strangers. You have no right to invade my life anymore. So why should I not bring it up? Why shouldn’t I?”
After hearing this, Troy’s face went pale for a moment, as if pierced by countless arrows. The

pain nearly made his muscles spasm. But he quickly ignored it. Pain did not matter. Even if his heart raced itself sick, it did not matter. What mattered was that Ayla obeyed him.
His expression snapped back to cold and vicious Veins stood out on his forehead. “You are that desperate to get away from me? Do you really think I care what the Winstons think? Go ahead and keep running to the old man. See if you can stomach angering him to death.”
Looking at Troy’s stubborn, twisted eyes, Ayla wanted to bite him.
He did not bother hiding anything. Even when talking about making peace, he was forceful and controlling.
He only wanted an obedient Ayla, not someone who fought him at every turn. He stated his demand again. “Ayla, listen carefully. I do not want a divorce. I want to continue this marriage. I want you by my side, loving me, always. Do you understand?”
Ayla had never seen someone so selfish and unreasonable. An uncommunicative lunatic. “You do not want to divorce me because you enjoy watching me suffer, suffer under the Winstons, do you?” she sneered.
“As long as you stay with me, I will treat you well I promise,” Troy said.
Ayla truly did not know how he had the nerve to say that. “Have you ever kept a single promise?”
“You never gave me a chance,” Troy snapped.
“Opportunities were everywhere,” Ayla shot back “At Winston Estate, why did you not stop Carmen even once? Troy, if you keep harassing me, I can keep causing scenes with the Winstons. If you want to go crazy, I will go crazy with you. I know you are not afraid of them, but you are afraid of losing face. Let us see who can afford to lose more.”
Troy’s expression finally changed. It twisted, as if he had been pushed to the edge.
Ayla’s heart tightened. Anyone seeing his face would worry he might pull out a knife at any
moment.
Her fear and vigilance cooled him a little. What he really wanted was to go back to how things were at the start, not to win her back only to face her coldness again.
But that was later. The condition was that Ayla came back. If she refused, he did not mind using rough, direct methods.
Troy’s face stayed dark. “Ayla, I gave you a chance to continue this life with me. And you? You disappointed me. You set me up, treated me like a fool. No one does that to me without paying a price.”
