James slung an arm around Draven’s shoulder. “Stop playing it cool. I know you’re secretly thrilled. Ayla is insanely hard to win over. If you managed to land her, you must’ve got something special. Come on, tell me. I’m begging you here.”
Draven said, “There was no trick.”
“Why are you being stingy? I saw long ago that you were into her. Don’t deny it.” Seeing his expression stay the same, James snorted. “Don’t tell me Ayla confessed first?”
Draven raised a brow slightly.
James froze. “Seriously?”
He didn’t believe it. “No way!”
That hit him hard. If Halle had confessed to him, James would’ve been so happy he’d strip and run down
the street.
He took a few seconds to digest it, and the more he did, the more he felt like the universe’s unluckiest sucker.
His love life was clearly more active, yet Draven, this cold, rigid rock, had overtaken him from behind.
“So you didn’t use any
tricks?”
He looked like he was grinding his teeth.
Draven’s real journey wasn’t as effortless as it sounded, but he did have some experience. He kept it short. “Give her what she actually needs.”
“I know that, but Halle doesn’t even wanna see me. Just me showing up is already wrong.” James looked miserable. “I’d be happy to be there for her the way she likes, but do you know what she likes? She likes me not being there.”
James frowned deeply. “I really don’t get it. Am I that lacking in charm?”
Draven said, “Then don’t be there.”
James was speechless. “Damn it. Forget it. I won’t ask you anymore. Your situation is nothing like mine. Your experience is useless to me.”
Draven said, “There are things in common.”
James looked at him.
“As long as you truly love her, she’ll feel it.”
James mulled over the word “love.” The more he thought about it, the more surprised he became. He looked at Draven in disbelief. “You’re thinking about marriage? You’re that serious?”
James was two years older than Draven, and he’d never even thought about marriage. Right now, he just wanted to date Halle once. As for the future, he never considered it.
Draven and Ayla should be the same, right? They’d only known each other a few months, and they’d been

Thinking about marriage already was wild.

“Mr. Storm, I’ve known you for years. I don’t want you to end up alone, but I honestly can’t picture you getting married.” James said frankly. “And after spending this much time with Ayla, I never felt like she liked you that way. She treated you like a friend and a boss. That confession had come out of nowhere. Sure, Ayla definitely is into you, but how much? That’s hard to say. Think about Ayla and Troy…
“Of course, I’m not trying to mess with your head or rain on your parade. I just want to remind you. For now, just date. Don’t think too much about marriage yet Don’t put too much pressure on each other. Just enjoy the present. Worry about the long–term stuff later
What James thought about, Draven had thought about too.
Ayla definitely didn’t love him as much as he loved her, but she was a serious person. For someone like Ayla to confess, it could only mean she wanted a future with him.
Draven couldn’t deny that Ayla had been married to Troy for three years. Even after the divorce, Ayla still kept the congratulatory card Troy sent for her entertainment company’s opening. When Troy got sick, Ayla would personally return a call, not completely ignore it.
James’s feeling wasn’t wrong. Before Ayla confessed, there had been very clear boundaries in how she interacted with him. There were no romantic signals, nothing like a woman liking a man.
Only when Ayla allowed his kisses, allowed his closeness, could he truly feel that she loved him too.
