Chapter 461 Dr Storm

Ayla had thought she was more experienced at relationships than Draven. She was wrong.
Everything she’d experienced before had been warped.
None of it was worth learning from.
The moment Ayla realized that Draven cared about her–that in the future, when something upset her, she could say it out loud without holding back–her emotions surged uncontrollably. She couldn’t rein them in. She suddenly wrapped her arms around his waist and pressed her face against his chest.
In a low voice, she said, “I’m a little sad today.”
Draven’s breathing grew heavy at once, his voice dropping. “Ayla, I want to know why you’re unhappy.”
“I always thought my dad was just cold by nature, that he didn’t know how to be a loving father. But today I found out that’s not true. He has another daughter, older than me. He treats her extremely well. He’s just bad to Kaleb and me.”
Ayla lowered her voice. “I saw it with my own eyes. It made me feel awful–worse than I’ve felt in a long time.”
She felt the man suddenly pull her into a tight embrace. Strong heartbeats thudded against her
ear.
Several seconds passed before his low voice sounded. “Ayla, I’m not good at comforting people. Tell me what should I do?”
—
Ayla thought for a moment. “I want to sit for a bit.”
“Okay.”
Draven loosened his hold.
Ayla immediately noticed the way he looked at her–careful, almost overly cautious. After she sat down on the couch, she patted the spot beside her, and Draven sat with her.
He was very close.
Ayla thought about how, just a few months ago, they barely knew each other. Because of their awkward positions, they hadn’t been easy to get along with. But Draven was a steady, powerful man–someone who seemed capable of handling any problem, smoothing over anything that came his way.

He was the kind of person you instinctively wanted to lean on.
And now, she truly could.
She could wrap her arms around his waist, listen to his heartbeat, breathe in the clean, reassuring scent of him, and draw a deep sense of safety from his presence.
Ayla suddenly felt like she wasn’t lacking anything at all.
She reached up and brushed the corner of Draven’s mouth, leaned in, and instead of kissing his lips, pressed a light kiss at the corner.
Holding his hand, she said softly, “You don’t need to do anything. As long as you’re with me, my ‘illness‘ goes away.”
Those words clearly stirred something in him. His eyes shone brighter than usual–deeper, more captivating.
Ayla almost didn’t dare meet his gaze. She shifted her eyes slightly, fiddled with his fingers, then finally looked back at him and smiled. “You’re my doctor.”
She really was starting to like Draven more and more.
And for Ayla, that realization was a little frightening. The deeper she fell, the more she invested. And if–if one day Draven stopped liking her, chose another woman instead, she didn’t know if she could survive that kind of blow.
She wanted to open her heart completely.
But she’d been hurt before–hurt so badly.
Fear rose from deep in her bones. And precisely because this person was Draven, the pain would be devastating.
Sure enough, at the beginning, she thought she could handle it. But once she truly fell in, she would lose all control.
Better to slow down…
There were still people outside. After leaning against him for a while, Ayla let go. Her complexion had improved noticeably.
“Let’s go back out,” she said.
Draven studied her face. “If you still feel bad, we can stay a bit longer.”

Ayla tugged her lips into a faint smile. “Dr. Storm, I feel much better now.”

Hearing that title, his gaze darkened slightly. His thumb brushed her lips, his voice low and dangerously persuasive. “Your lips are a bit dry.”
Ayla thought he wanted a quick kiss. The way he looked was intoxicating–she wanted to kiss him too. She leaned toward her boyfriend without hesitation, only for him to suddenly stand up, take her hand, and pull her toward the door.
Ayla was caught off guard.
When they left the lounge, Draven still hadn’t let go of her hand.
Will stared straight at their intertwined fingers. His expression changed completely.
After Ayla sat down, she was still thinking about her dry lips. There happened to be a glass of iced lemon water in front of her. Just as she was about to take a sip, a hand reached over.
Draven took the glass away.
He looked at the pitcher beside Will. “Give it to me.”
