Chapter 534 A Quiet Secret
The long dining table was covered with a white tablecloth. The surface was decorated with fresh plants an flowers. Beautiful plates were set out, along with a rich dinner and many bottles of expensive wine.
Draven was wearing the bracelet Ayla gave him. It had a simple, rustic style, calm and understated, makin him look even more controlled and disciplined.
He didn’t tell his friends it was from Ayla.
Ayla understood.
Draven liked this kind of silent understanding between them.
A secret shared in plain sight, right in front of everyone.
Draven never really celebrated birthdays before. The people who came tonight were all close friends. He had already told them not to bring gifts, but he still received one special bracelet that he truly liked.
Ayla sat next to Draven.
Next to her was Halle. Next to Halle was James.
Across from Ayla and Draven sat Blake and Herman.
Will sat beside Herman.
Because Will had once given Shawn the wrong information and almost caused him to lose Draven as a friend, Shawn sat next to Will tonight, planning to get him drunk as a lesson.
Winnie naturally sat on Shawn’s other side.
So at this warm, private gathering, Will was the only one sitting between two guys.
Everyone else seemed paired up.
Even though Herman and his secretary were just coworkers, she was a strong, sharp businesswoman. Herman, with his silver–rim glasses and gentle manners, looked surprisingly matching when he sat next to her.
Will was dumbstruck. They were all friends. So why was he the only one stuck in this miserable state?
James had already drunk a lot. Halle kept chatting with Will about childhood stories. It was loud and nonstop.
Old classmates really did have strong bonds.
James teased, “Hey, when are you going to start dating? I think you’re the only one here who’s never even had a girlfriend. I’m embarrassed for you.”
Will almost lost his smile.

James always knew how to hit where it hurt.
No wonder his cousin couldn’t stand him.
Finished
Halle raised her glass and said, “What’s wrong with that? A clean, simple guy is great. That’s exactly my type.”
She swirled her drink. “James just needs an older woman. Once he meets the right one, they will hit it off and sparks will fly.”
Will laughed. “Thanks. I’ll take that blessing.”
Halle sighed. “If we weren’t such close friends, I might have tried to date you myself.”
James gave Will a dark little smile.
Ignoring James‘ death stare, Will told Halle, “Then I hope you find the cute younger guy you like soon.” James opened his mouth; no words came out.
Winnie and Halle got along really well. Ayla was more reserved. The topics Halle talked about with others could get pretty wild and embarrassing, full of beep–worthy adult topics.
So Ayla quickly backed her friend up. “Yeah. Guys like Mr. Newton are my type too.” She tilted her head, looking past Shawn toward him. “Mr. Newton, if you want to date, you could do it anytime.”
Shawn glanced at Will, then patted his shoulder. “You really are popular.”
Will looked at the hand on his shoulder.
He had a strong feeling Shawn might strangle him in the next second.
Ayla clearly understood the hidden tension in their words. She almost burst out laughing. Back when they were at Aqualith, just James and Halle alone could turn the gathering into comedy. Now with more people, it was even livelier.
While she was laughing, a peeled shrimp suddenly appeared on her plate.
She turned. Draven was already peeling another one. He only cared whether she had eaten enough. He didn’t pay attention to the noisy arguments around them.
This was probably how Draven always was at gatherings. He enjoyed being there, but he didn’t feel the need to join every conversation.
There weren’t many people here. Even the smallest movement caught attention.
Halle immediately teased, “Mr. Storm is such a sweetheart. He treats Ayla so well.
