Chapter 545 A Shadow Over the Birthday
The villa was decorated beautifully. Everywhere you looked, it felt soft and dreamy, like a scene from a movie. Draven sitting there made the whole picture even more perfect.
But something about Draven felt off.
He was very quiet. He sat on the side, not moving at all. There was a serious, almost solemn feeling around him.
Most of the people there knew Draven well. They could tell what kind of mood he was in, so no one bothered him.
Ayla watched him while slowly walking toward him.
Maybe he heard her footsteps. He looked up.
In that single moment, Ayla froze.
Was she imagining things? Why did she see a hint of hostility in his eyes?
She had never seen such a fierce look in Draven’s eyes before. Not when she was taken away by Troy back in Aqualith. Even when he found her back then, he had only looked cold and calm.
Just as Ayla tried to look closer, that look had gone.
Draven usually kept a distant look on his face. His eyes often seemed cold and unreadable. But whenever he looked at her, they always turned gentle–soft and calming, like wind moving through a forest.
And right now, he looked just like that.
Did I imagine it? Ayla wondered.
Holding Draven’s steady, unblinking gaze, she walked over to him. He was sitting. She was standing.
From above, Ayla studied his expression carefully. But she couldn’t find a single thing wrong with it.
Since Troy had shown up suddenly, the couple obviously needed time to talk. James and the others decided not to stay outside. They moved the party into the villa’s main living room instead.
“Today is Draven’s birthday. Let’s party longer tonight,” James said.
Shawn backed him up. “Of course. Let’s have fun.”
People who loved partying couldn’t do it with just one person. They needed a whole group to keep the energy going. Luckily, James had endless stamina. If his buddies wanted to party all night, he could keep up. If he ever stopped, it was probably because he drank too much.
“Ayla, you two go have some lovey–dovey time,” James said. Then he dragged Will away to help with the work, running around busy with party stuff.
Draven glanced at them, then looked back at Ayla calmly. “Sorry for making you worry.”

He patted the couch beside him. “Sit.”
Ayla didn’t sit right away. Instead, she bent down slightly and leaned closer, raising one eyebrow. “You’re upset. And you’re not going to tell me?”
“I’m upset?” Draven asked.
“Don’t hide it. I could tell.”
Draven looked at her for a while, then sighed like he couldn’t help it. “Because Troy came.”
“That’s it?” Ayla asked.
“Yeah. That’s it.”
Ayla let out a small laugh. “I thought you were going to ask why Troy was waiting for

my call.”
He only knew Ayla had met Troy privately a few times. He didn’t know anything about the phone call.
Strangely, he didn’t feel the need to ask.
If Ayla didn’t bring it up, he really wouldn’t ask.
Suddenly, Ayla said, “Draven, I want to apologize to you. This is my fault.”
She told him about the two times she had met Troy before.
“If I ever meet Troy privately again, I’ll tell you about it. Of course, I won’t go looking for him myself. Anyway, something like today won’t happen again. You know, stuff like Troy suddenly coming to find me and saying he couldn’t reach me by phone.” She paused, thinking carefully. “If I were you, I’d be upset too. You might think I still have unfinished feelings for him. Like we still have some kind of connection.
“Looking back, I really shouldn’t have handled it that way.”
The more Ayla thought about it, the more she felt she had done something wrong.
Draven knew Troy well. But Troy was her ex. It was important to make it clear to your current partner that you had no ties left with your ex.
Troy was complicated.
