Chapter 555 Trapped in the Shadows
Jed had never expected Ayla to go after Troy even after the divorce. If Mr. Winston ever found out …
His pupils shrank hard. For the first time, real fear hit him. He finally realized he had underestimated Ayla. He had messed with the wrong person. Panic flooded his chest. He was completely terrified.
“Ayla … how could you … No. No, this can’t happen. Mr. Winston can’t find out about this. Ayla, I was wrong. No–Ms. Keaton, I was wrong. I messed up. I swear I’ll never bother you again. Please … please don’t let Mr. Winston find out. I’ll be finished if he does…”

For the past three years, Jed had never been nice to her. He was always sarcastic and mocked her. He acted like an evil servant serving the king, while looking down on everyone else.
After Ayla married Troy, she lived a pathetic life.
But at least she knew how to behave like a decent person.
Jed was snobby and was hostile toward her. Ayla had no interest in having anything to do with Troy anymore, but this jerk delivered himself to her door.
He even tried to drug her. That was beyond disgusting.
Ayla was kind to her friends. However, once someone crossed her boundaries, she would not tolerate it.
Right now, Jed was shaking in fear, begging nonstop.
Ayla commanded coldly, “Search him.”
The bodyguards moved fast. They quickly found a pill on Jed. Iris stepped forward and took it.
The coldness in Ayla’s eyes deepened. “Gag him. Put him in the trunk.”
“Yes, ma’am,” the bodyguard said.
“Ms. Keaton, that lemon tea can only suppress it for a short time,” Iris said after checking the drug name online.
The lemon tea had been Ayla’s setup. Ayla’s earlier weakness was merely an act to lure Jed out.
After reading the drug details, Ayla’s anger grew even stronger. “Go to the hospital.”
She then called Halle. “Something happened on my end. I’ll explain after everything is handled.”
Halle immediately sensed something was wrong with her voice. “Do you need me to do anything?”
“Get Brooke to talk. Carefully.”
“Does he have a problem?”
“Most likely not. But we can’t rule it out completely.”

“Got it.”
“And if you run into Fabiola, keep an eye on her for me.”
“Sure.”

Ayla could clearly feel the weakness and heat she had barely suppressed starting to rise again. She had to get to the hospital first.
Fabiola also witnessed this scene. After listening to her subordinate’s report, she raised her eyebrow slightly. Her smile bloomed softly, and her voice sounded gentle. “Really?”
So this little sister of hers wasn’t weak after all. She had some thorns.
As an heiress from Zheron, Fabiola had never paid much attention to Ayla and Kaleb. In her eyes, they were alone and had no real power, so the gap between them was too big to matter. But after seeing how firmly Herman had forced Melody back to Zheron, she started to feel something was off.
Now, things were going a little beyond what she expected.
Fabiola was still smiling, but the cold look in her eyes was sharp and dangerous.
Isabella knew she had to grab this chance to make sure Jed couldn’t recover from it. After hanging up, she immediately called Troy to report what happened.
But her call couldn’t get through.
So, Isabella contacted Max. He said Troy had been at home the whole time.
“What happened? Why are you in such a hurry?” Max asked.
‘Mr. Bennett, I need to find Mr. Winston now,” Isabella said.
“Tell me what’s going on.”
Isabella briefly explained the situation.
“Then let’s go together,” Max said,
“Okay.” After hanging up, Isabella called Laura.
“Mr. Winston has been in his room for a full day and night,” Laura said nervously. “I tried to check on him, but he told me to get out. I didn’t dare knock again. What’s wrong with him?”
Isabella knew why. “I’m coming over with Mr. Bennett to check on him. Don’t worry.”
“Okay, okay. Please come quickly, I’m so worried,” Laura said before hanging up. Laura couldn’t help going upstairs. She stood at the stair landing and looked toward the guest room, the one farthest from the main bedroom. After Troy came home yesterday, he didn’t go back to his room. Instead, he went to Ayla’s room.
