Tyler disliked that tone immediately. After his disappointment in Edgar had settled in, everything about him seemed grating. “What do you mean, ‘who knows? If you don’t know, call and ask. If you do know, tell us. Is Halle your enemy now? Do you have to talk about her in that snide tone even with us?”

Tyler was already forcing his anger down, but his voice still came out sharp.

Edgar’s face fell instantly.

He took his phone and turned away. He didn’t call anyone. He only put on a show. After a while, he came back.

When he returned, Hayley was tugging Tyler’s arm, trying to calm him down. Seeing Edgar come in, she asked, “Is Halle stuck in traffic? She’s always been punctual. Edgar looked at his parents’ reactions and felt bitterly disappointed. The double standard was obvious. If he made the slightest mistake, his father would criticize him.

If he had been the one late today, Tyler would have already been giving him the cold shoulder.
