"Maybe not today," Lambert countered smoothly, "but what about all the other times?"
Camilla bristled defensively. "Yes, I did those things, but I was drunk! And I apologized for them. Are you just going to hold this over my head for the rest of my life?"
"I can't just let it go," he admitted. "Do you have any idea how much agonizing restraint it takes every single time?"
Hearing him say it like that, while pinning her with that hungry gaze, made her want to curl into a ball and disappear.
Her anger dissolved, mostly because she knew she had zero right to be mad.
Because every time it happened, she really had driven him to the edge of insanity.
Even if she had been blacked out, she was still the one who did it.
She had to take responsibility for it.
"I'm sorry..."
It seemed like apologizing was the only defense she had left.
"So if I catch a cold, whose fault is it?"
"...Mine."
She admitted it reluctantly.
But she knew she was the primary culprit.
He had fought so hard to keep his hands off her in the past.
And today, they had watched that movie side-by-side.
Lambert's reaction wasn't because of the actors on screen.
It was because of her.
She didn't need a vivid imagination to guess that he had been picturing the two of them passionately tangled in those sheets instead.
He wanted to kiss her. He wanted to pin her to the bed and do the most intimate things imaginable with her.
That was why he reacted.
And that was why he had plunged himself into freezing water.
If he got sick from it, it really would be because of her.
"Then tell me, why was I so angry a minute ago?"
Her brain was moving at a snail's pace.
She thought about it for a second. "Because I tried to sneak out."
"Do you understand what you did wrong?"
She bit her lip, stubbornly refusing to admit full defeat.
