Troy stayed silent for at least a full minute. Slowly, his eyes turned red, yet there was no regret in them at all. He lightly wiped away his tears. Even that small gesture carried a hint of reckless defiance, like someone who had completely lost his mind. “Ayla, you really know how to hurt people. How could you truly fall in love with Draven?” he said.

“Why couldn’t I?” Ayla replied.

The veins on Troy’s forehead bulged. He had missed Ayla to the point of madness. She was right in front of him now, close enough to see and touch, yet the pain in his chest was worse than when he only longed for her. He asked hoarsely, “Can I hug you?”

“No,” Ayla said.

Troy clenched his teeth. “What if I insist?”

“That would be just as meaningless as when you insist I imagine hypotheticals,” Ayla replied.

“Fine. Ayla, you’re really something,” Troy said. That surge of emotion vanished again, replaced by something darker and heavier. “I originally planned to wait another two months before coming to see you, but I was really afraid you and Draven would quietly go get married. Of course, even if you do get married, it doesn’t matter. As long as I’m around, you’ll end up divorcing sooner or later.”

The bad feeling Ayla had just pushed down surged back up. “What do you mean?”

Troy looked at her deeply. On Draven’s birthday he had finally faced his own heart. He loved Ayla. But by the time he realized it, he had already lost her. That blow was something he simply could not bear.

He had never experienced a state where his entire body felt drained of strength. Heartbreak truly caused physical pain. He had been utterly miserable.

That day, when he returned to the villa, Troy stayed in Ayla’s room for an entire day. He only wanted to remain somewhere that still carried her presence. He could not sleep. He lay alone on the floor. When he tried to get up, his body trembled as he searched for something to steady himself. He pulled open the drawer of Ayla’s desk and found it filled with torn scraps of paper.

He picked up the fragments. They were from her diary.

He pieced them together slowly.

“If it’s a boy, we’ll call him Fluffy. If it’s a girl, we’ll call her Birdie. Because you like to stroke my hair when I’m asleep or sick. It feels warm and gentle.”

Troy continued speaking. “Then I found a tiny torn piece of a hospital report you had left behind. From the incomplete words, I discovered a secret. When you couldn’t get pregnant before, you tried IVF. Ten eggs were retrieved, but I never went through with it, so the eggs were still there. I took them overseas. Ayla, our babies are almost eight months along now. One boy and one girl.”

Ayla stood frozen in place.

Troy asked calmly, “When they’re born, do you think Fluffy and Birdie will call Draven by his name, or will they call him their stepfather?”

When something completely beyond expectation happened, shock made disbelief the first

reaction.

Ayla’s mind went blank for several seconds. Even when she came back to herself, her thoughts were still in chaos. “Troy, there has to be a limit to your harassment. Now you’re dragging children into this? Do you have any degency at all? You think I’d believe you? You’re a liar!”

Troy looked at her seriously for a long moment, as if afraid she would refuse to believe it. Then he took out a document. “Take a look.”

Ayla grabbed the document and flung it at him, growling in a low voice, “You’re even forging documents now to fool me?”

After the divorce, Ayla had experienced moments of emotional intensity, but she had never been provoked so easily by just a few words. This level of anger was unprecedented.

Her extreme reaction and her words were because, deep down, she already knew it was all real.

Troy blocked the document with his hand, picked it up again, and opened the legal paperwork. Right in front of Ayla, he flipped through it page by page. There were ultrasound images from different stages. “When I discovered that we could still have children, I didn’t tell anyone. Not even Max. I knew this was my chance, and nothing could go wrong. I used company business as an excuse to go overseas. That was just a cover,” Troy said.

Ayla’s eyes burned with overwhelming fury. She clenched her teeth hard. Her fists tightened and trembled slightly, the veins on the backs of her hands standing out.

“I planned all of this carefully, even Draven wouldn’t be able to spot anything. My goal was to fool everyone until I believed it was safe to tell you,” Troy said, staring straight into her eyes without blinking.
