Ayla could hardly believe what she had just heard. How could Troy say all of this in such a calm tone?
She studied the man in front of her carefully.
With Troy’s looks, presence, family background and abilities, all it took was a single glance for many people to willingly bow to him. He did not even need to put in any effort to get a woman who loved him more than she ever had!
And yet. And yet Troy chose to torment her instead. To torment the version of her who no longer loved him.
Troy continued flipping through the ultrasound photos.
Ayla finally snapped, “Stop flipping them.”
Troy stopped immediately, closed the folder, and looked obedient, almost well behaved.
Ayla stared into his eyes. The anger burst out of her like a roar from deep in her chest. “Why? Why did you do this?”
Two small lives that carried half of her DNA were about to be born. Just thinking about it felt unreal, mixed with an overwhelming sense of violation.
Those were two living human beings, not objects that could be casually created and used. How could he bring them into the world like this?
Had he ever thought about what they would face after they were born? How could he be this irresponsible?
Troy realized that he liked the way Ayla looked when she was angry. When Ayla felt nothing toward him, neither sadness nor joy, his heart sank deeper and deeper, as if he were locked in a bottomless abyss with no hope at all. But now, she still reacted to him. To Troy, it felt like he had found his cure.
“Ayla, I didn’t have any other choice,” he said.
Ayla growled, “What do you mean you didn’t have a choice? What kind of suffering did you go through? Were you poisoned? Is that why you had to do something this inhumane just to save yourself?”
“I already told you, I love you. Everything I did was to make you come back to me. I want you to remember me for the rest of your life,” Troy said. At that moment, Troy sounded completely insane.

A tear slipped from Ayla’s eye. The fury inside her reached its peak. She had never felt this kind of rage in her entire life. “Don’t taint the word love. What you did isn’t love at all.”
Troy laughed. “Ayla, you know this, right? I married you because I liked you. I admit it, I’m a terrible person. Even the way I love you is full of poison, so of course you couldn’t stand me. But poisoned love is still love to me. That’s just who I am. So what if I never change and rot all the way through?”
Ayla felt a chill run through her entire body.
Troy was fully aware. He knew everything, and yet he went on exactly as he always had, refusing to change.
Troy’s love was her curse.
He laughed so hard that tears almost came out, then his eyes turned sharp again, slowly sinking into obsession. “Ayla, even if you never want to be with me again, I’ll still make sure you never forget me. I’ll become a thorn stuck in both your heart and Draven’s. I said I would do it, and I did. Sorry for not asking your permission. But now we have two children. As their biological mother, once you see them, can you really stay completely unaffected? You can’t, can you?”
He smiled again. “Ayla, you’re a morally upright person. I’m not. I have no morals at all. That’s why I can create two children without hesitation. And because you’re a good person, those children will be a bond we can never cut for the rest of our lives.”
Listening to him, Ayla wiped away the tears she could no longer control. She even laughed a little, though it was a hollow, miserable laugh.
When bad things happened, Ayla was usually able to endure them. But this time, she simply could not pull herself together.
She looked at Troy in despair, her smile growing even more broken. “So even two living children are tools to you. Tools you can use by exploiting my humanity. Troy, you’re unbelievable. You’re cruel beyond words. I really can’t compete with you. You can even use your own children like this. Fine. I give up. You win. But…”
Her voice faltered, choking as she looked at the man she once loved, the ex-husband she now hated to her core. “You did all of this just so I wouldn’t leave you. So why did it have to be after the divorce? Why didn’t you realize any of this before? Why didn’t you
