Draven wasn’t surprised that Kayla had found out everything. He picked up the tea she poured and took a sip. It tasted bitter at first, then slightly sweet. He set the cup down, tapped the table lightly with his knuckles, and ignored her comment. “I’m staying in Zheron for a while.”

Kayla raised an eyebrow, watching his calm face. “Oh? My precious son finally misses home?”

Draven looked at her. He used to crave her affection so badly that even the smallest kindness made him do whatever she wanted.

But after being with Ayla, that space inside him was already full. Now, facing Kayla’s controlling nature and her habit of deciding everything alone, he wasn’t the same anymore. “There are no happy memories in this house. There’s nothing here for me to miss.”

Kayla froze. She never expected to hear that from him.

“You and Dad are terrible examples of marriage,” he continued. “Why would you think I’d have any expectations about marriage or family? Why would I rush into it?”

Unless it was with Ayla. She was the only one who ever made him think about marriage. Later, he realized just being with her was enough. Marriage was only a label.

He met Kayla’s sharp gaze. “You say you want to fix things and be a good mother, but all you ever talk about is marriage. Did you ever ask what I wanted? Before Ayla, I had no interest in women at all. If you’d truly thought about me, you never would’ve mentioned a strategic marriage.”

His eyes were cold. Despite being mother and son, they looked more like negotiating opponents. “Ms. Storm, you’re not sincere.”

After a pause, he added, “If you really want me married, then lead by example. If you don’t even like marriage yourself, why would your child? Or you could send Jeremy to marry instead. Though with his reputation, I doubt any family would agree to marry their daughter to him.”

Kayla’s expression shifted from shock to displeasure. By the time he finished, all that remained was disbelief.

Where was the obedient son she once knew?

“So… you were just cooperating with me before?” That thought hit her hard. Her family had given Draven nothing but pain, and for once, she felt a flicker of guilt.

“If I hadn’t played along, who would have paid you any attention with that halfhearted attitude?”

Kayla clenched her teeth. Being spoken to like that by her son was hard to accept.

Just then, a phone vibrated.

It was Draven’s.

Kayla glanced down and caught a glimpse.

It was documents related to children.

“You care that much about Ayla?” They were already broken up, yet Ayla was about to become a mother. Was he already studying baby-related stuff to keep up? Draven had always been flawless. Kayla thought he’d turn out like her, but he seemed more like Eric.

Draven didn’t deny it. “Yes.”

“You still love her that much?” Kayla watched him closely. It was rare for him to talk that much. Her anger faded, replaced by curiosity.

Now that he’d stopped pretending, she was seeing a side of him she’d never known.

Draven glanced at the file, locked his phone, and met her sharp, perceptive eyes. “I’ve told you before. Ayla is the love of my life.”

“You really disappoint me. Indecisive. Just like your dad.”

Despite her words, there was no real blame in her tone. In the end, she just laughed lightly, then spoke sincerely, “Since you’ve decided, I won’t interfere. I’m not that stubborn. No strategic marriage, then.”

Draven stayed silent. Even if she interfered, it wouldn’t matter.

“If you have time, go see your dad,” Kayla said, leaning back in the antique chair.

Draven was surprised. “Why bring him up all of a sudden?”
