But to outsiders, Kaleb just seemed like someone very hard to get along with.
He kept his warm side only for her. And Bria felt secretly proud just thinking about it.
And the more proud she got, the more trouble came.
"Bria?" A deep, calm voice came from behind her.
Bria turned around and saw Herman, with Blake standing next to him.
Blake first looked at Bria, then noticed Kaleb. The two of them were sitting at the same table. Kaleb was holding a dog, and Bria was looking at him with clear pride and admiration in her eyes.
If Blake hadn't started to understand these things, she might not have thought much about it. But now, she could instantly tell there was a wall between them and everyone else. It was obvious—they were a couple.
If even Blake could see it, there was no way Herman would miss it.
Herman even guessed, "Was that why you left so quickly last time? Because Kaleb was there?"
He glanced at Kaleb.
The young man didn't look intimidated at all. He looked straight back, calm and steady, not even a hint of panic. Instead, Bria's expression kept changing.
Herman thought to himself, not bad. No wonder Kaleb had once beaten Troy and repeatedly given Draven cold treatment. The guy really did have guts.
He didn't even fear a big boss like Draven, so of course he wouldn't be afraid of being noticed by Herman.
On the other hand, Bria was regretting it so much. She should have just stayed in bed and slept. What bad luck! I got caught like this!
She was genuinely very worried about people she knew finding out. So she rarely spoke so nicely, "Mr. Howell, Ms. Pope, can you just pretend you didn't see anything? Don't tell my brother, and don't tell Ayla either. Okay?"
Herman and Blake weren't the type to stick their noses into other people's business. And they were adults too—when a much younger person, almost ten years younger, asked them like this, they naturally would protect their privacy.
Herman said, "Don't worry. We won't say anything. Just pretend we didn't see it."
Bria finally relaxed a little. "Thank you."
The small moment passed, but Bria still wasn't at ease. She looked worried and down.
Kaleb didn't like seeing her like this. He wanted her to stop caring so much about what other people thought. He asked her gently, "Is it really that hard for you?"
"Yes! We absolutely can't let anyone find out!"
"That doesn't sound like you," Kaleb said.
