She shouted, "What do you mean you can't do it? You've been with me this long—you've seen how people try to please me, haven't you? Aren't you an actress? Then act. Just keep flattering me, keep sucking up to me, and I'll treat you the same as before!”
Shirley felt deeply humiliated. All the care she had treasured so carefully before turned out to be a joke, worthless.
If it had all been a game from the start, why had Bria done it so seriously, tricking me so completely?
I actually believed it all was real!
Driven to the edge, Shirley cried out in pain, "I don't want something fake. I want something real! Bria, that New Year's Day when I got hurt filming, when you rushed over, wasn't there even a little sincerity? Was I wrong?
"I thought... I thought you really saw me as your sister! Hearing what you said to Andrew and the others, of course, I'm hurt! How was I supposed to know you were like this?
"If you hadn't stopped me from acting, I might've believed everything we had was real. I could've kept those memories. But now it's all fake!”
Bria noticed the faint redness in Shirley's eyes. From the first time they met, Shirley had always been the type to cry easily. Bria had always looked down on people like that.
Crying solved nothing. It only gave whoever hurt you more satisfaction.
What Bria hadn't expected was that, during this time, she had actually gotten used to Shirley's weakness.
She could tolerate Shirley.
But now, the anger in Shirley's eyes was unmistakable. Someone who cried so easily wasn't shedding tears now. All that remained was stubbornness, raw and unyielding. Bria could feel her emotions clearly.
Pain. Hurt. Suppressed frustration.
Bria clenched her fist so tightly that her nails dug into her palm.
She couldn't understand it. All I'm asking is for Shirley to keep up the act, keep being my "friend.” I'll still take her out, spend money on her, support her, just like before. Why did she have to react this strongly?
Why?
What the hell is wrong with these people?
Is the world run by idiots now?
Bria clenched her teeth, glaring at Shirley. To be honest, Shirley's shouting at her shocked her. For the first time, she realized Shirley wasn't the obedient, gentle person she thought she was. It felt strange, unfamiliar.
The pet I've raised not only wanted to run away, but also dared to bite me?
Unbelievable.
She used to be a nobody with barely any fans, someone even assistants could push around in the company. Logically, shouldn't she want to rise up?
She should've wanted to make people look up to her, to climb higher, to be seen, to be admired, to become a star, to step on everyone who once looked down on her.
I've given her all of that.
As long as she pretends none of this had happened and stayed with me, she could keep climbing.
That's everything she should want, yet she's refusing it?
I've already tolerated her trying to sneak away, and she still doesn't know what's good for her?
Has Shirley lost her mind?
Shirley wanted to say she wanted sincerity, but she knew Bria couldn't give that.
Seeing her hesitate, Bria pressed harder. "Say it, or I'll make you regret it.”
She liked this pet, but if the pet didn't listen, she wouldn't go easy on Shirley.
Shirley looked pained. "You can't give me what I want.”
"If you don't say it, how do you know I can't?”
Shirley looked surprised. Is Bria trying to keep me? Otherwise, why would she say that? She looked at her seriously. Bria wasn't joking.
For a moment, Shirley thought she saw a sliver of hope. After thinking it through, she spoke what was in her heart. "I want us to be real best friends.”
"Aren't we already?”
Shirley gripped the hem of her clothes. "Not like that. I mean the kind that's sincere. I'd treat you well, and you'd treat me well. When you're sad, I'd be there for you. When I need you, you'd be there for me... I know this sounds fake to you, but it's what I want. I don't want to keep being a fake friend by your side. You already have too many fake people around you. They all want something from you. I don't want to be like them. I just want something real.”
Hearing that, Bria's first thought was, People really could be this stupid, like Shirley.

Why is half of each of these chapters missing? The story sort of trails off in the middle of the chapter. That’s unfortunate....
