Chapter 14
Nicholas ignored the fact that his injuries had not yet healed. After hastily handing off the company’s affairs, he took Darian and several trusted aides with him and traveled day and night, rushing toward Nashville.
Three days and three nights, without sleep or rest.
By the time he arrived in Nashville, he was gaunt and haggard, his eye sockets sunken, his lips cracked and bleeding. Only his eyes were terrifyingly bright, burning with a near-obsessive flame.
When his men finally brought back confirmed news, Nicholas was leaning against the cold wall of the hotel, panting for breath.
“Mr. Padilla, we’ve found her. Mrs. Padilla… arrived in Nashville ten days ago and is now staying at Sylvan Villas in the west of the city. That is… the residence of the Rodriguez family, the wealthiest family in Nashville. And,” the subordinate swallowed hard, “in three days, the Rodriguez family will be holding a wedding. The bride is… Mrs. Padilla.”
The wealthiest family in Nashville, the Rodriguez family.
Brayden Rodriguez.
That name was like an icy awl, stabbing viciously into Nicholas’s heart.
The Rodriguez family was as rich as a nation, with tangled, deep-rooted connections to those in
power.
Brayden himself had taken control of the Rodriguez family at twenty-five. His methods were thunderous and decisive; his looks were striking. Yet he was known for his self-discipline and had never married, making him the man countless women in Nashville dreamed of.
How could his Katie be connected to Brayden? And even be marrying him?
No! Impossible!
Nicholas burst out the door, jumped into his car, and sped toward Sylvan Villas in the west of the city.
Just as he arrived outside Sylvan Villas, he saw the figure etched into his very bones, walking out side by side with a man in a suit,

The man slightly turned his body and carefully draped a snow-white coat over Katherine’s shoulders, his movements natural and gentle.
It was Brayden.
And Katherine, wearing a pale yellow dress, looked fair-skinned and radiant, her complexion far better than when she had been at the Padilla family’s villa.
She lowered her head slightly, letting Brayden fasten the buttons for her. Her profile, under the thin winter sunlight, appeared soft and serene.
It was an expression Nicholas had not seen on her face for a very long time.
“Katie!” Nicholas shouted hoarsely as he staggered forward.
Katherine looked up at the sound of his voice. When she saw him, a faint trace of surprise flashed through her eyes, then quickly faded into calm. Beneath that calm was complete distance and coldness, as if she were looking at an insignificant stranger.
Brayden stepped half a pace forward, subtly shielding Katherine behind him. A perfectly polite smile rested on his face, but his gaze was sharp as a blade. “And you are?”
Nicholas ignored him entirely, staring only at Katherine, his voice trembling. “Katie, come back with me. Let’s go home, okay? I know I was wrong. I really know I was wrong…”
Katherine looked at him quietly for a moment before finally speaking. Her voice was cool, without the slightest ripple. “Mr. Padilla, you and I are already divorced. There is nothing left between us. There is no Katie of yours here.”
She paused, then turned to Brayden beside her, her tone softening slightly. “This is my fiancé, Brayden.”
Fiancé.
The word was like a poisoned dagger, plunging viciously into Nicholas’s heart.
Brayden naturally wrapped an arm around Katherine’s shoulders, his posture intimate and possessive. He gave Nicholas a slight nod, a smile that never reached his eyes. “So you are Mr.
Padilla. I’ve heard much about you. In three days, it will be Katie’s and my wedding. If Mr. Padilla has the time, you’re welcome to attend.”
A wedding.
Nicholas’s vision darkened as he watched Katherine, held by Brayden, turn and walk away.

From beginning to end, she never looked back at him again, as if he were nothing more than a cloud of unpleasant air.
“Katie! Katherine!!” He roared as he tried to chase after them, only to be stopped by the bodyguards of the Rodriguez residence who appeared from nowhere.
He could only watch helplessly as the two figures walked away together into the distance.
