Divorce you and marry him novel Chapter 2

Chapter 2

His lips parted like he wanted to say something-an explanation, a promise, anything to patch the crack he’d just felt open beneath his feet.

But before he could, their driver came running over. “Mrs. Padilla, something’s wrong with the car. The wheel assembly’s jammed. We can’t fix it quickly. I’m afraid we won’t be able to leave right now.”

At some point, a fine mist of rain started falling, carrying the sharp chill of winter.

Nicholas glanced at the sky and made a decision instantly. “It’s fine. Sammy and I have our car right up ahead. We’re heading home anyway. You can ride with us.”

Before she could respond, he grabbed her wrist and pulled her toward his car. “Get in.”

Katherine tugged once, but she couldn’t break free, so she didn’t bother fighting again.

Samantha was already waiting inside the carriage. When she saw Katherine, she gave Katherine a smile that was hard to read This book had been added on your bookshelf. in. It’s cold out there.”

Katherine didn’t answer. She only gave a small nod and stepped closer to climb in.

“Wait!” Samantha suddenly gasped. “Katie, why is there blood behind you?”

Katherine froze for a beat, then understood immediately. Her period must have started early. She’d been walking in the plum grove for a long time and hadn’t noticed.

Nicholas saw it too. Without hesitation, he took off his coat and draped it over her shoulders. Then, he said quickly, “Get in the car. It’s warm inside. Don’t catch a chill.”

The coat still held his body heat, and it carried that crisp pine scent that always clung to him. The gesture was almost considerate.

But Katherine simply lowered her eyes and showed no reaction at all.

Then Samantha’s face suddenly went pale. She swayed and leaned into Nicholas, as if she might collapse. “Nick… I-I feel dizzy…”

Nicholas immediately supported her and asked, “What’s wrong?”

“I-I’ve always been sensitive to blood,” Samantha said as she leaned into his arms, her eyes

turning red. “Katie has blood on her. If I have to sit like that the whole way home, I’m afraid I won’t be able to handle it…”

Nicholas stiffened. His hands paused, and his expression turned conflicted.

After a short silence, he looked at Katherine. “Katie, Sammy really can’t handle the sight of blood. It makes her feel awful. Since we’re not far from home, why don’t you just walk back?”

The moment he finished speaking, even he seemed to realize how wrong it sounded. He avoided her eyes.

If he had so openly favored Samantha and left her standing alone in the rain in the past, Katherine would’ve been torn apart. She would’ve cried until she couldn’t breathe, and she would’ve demanded to know whether she meant anything to him in his heart.

But now, her heart was calm. In fact, she found his choice normal and painfully predictable.

She nodded without saying a single word, then turned around and stepped toward the rain.

“Wait!” Nicholas called after her again.

Katherine turned back.

“You dropped your bracelet.” He held a goshenite bracelet out to her.

When Katherine saw it, a faint flicker of emotion crossed her otherwise calm face for the first

time.

She reached for it almost immediately, gripping it tightly in her palm. Even her voice carried a trace of urgency she couldn’t quite hide. “Thank you. I’m glad you picked it up.

Nicholas stared at her, unsettled. He felt something sour crawl through his chest.

Earlier, when she saw him accidentally get too close to Samantha, she hadn’t even blinked. But now, over a plain little bracelet like this, she was acting as if it mattered more than anything.

“Is that bracelet really that important?” he asked.

Katherine paused for a moment, then the corners of her lips lifted into the faintest. smile. “Yes. It’s very important.”

It was a gift from the man she would one day marry,
