Divorced and Pregnant My New Life with a Billionaire Drives My Ex Crazy novel Chapter 24

“It’s hard to say if she’s really an outsider. Give it time, she might end up family. Just watch. Wiona’s good days are almost over.”

The crowd started whispering among themselves.

Wiona heard every word, but she just lowered her head slightly, her face empty, as if nothing could touch her.

Jace clenched his fists, barely holding himself back from snapping at everyone to keep quiet. His eyes stayed on Kellen, worried she’d be dragged into the mess.

Grandma Grace glanced at the oversized gift box Kellen brought and said politely, “Ms. Castro, thank you for being here. You don’t have to bring gifts.

“I just don’t care for anything ordinary, anyway.”

Kellen’s smile froze as the room fell silent. Someone snorted a laugh. It was Bianca.

Alona shot her daughter a glare, then signaled for someone to take the gift from Kellen.

When the box was opened, it revealed a tea set that was clearly expensive and collectible.

Even Alona looked surprised.

Kellen was really going all out to win Grandma Grace over. But was she using her own money, or was she spending Jace’s?

Kellen stepped forward and held out the tea set herself. “Ma’am, I couldn’t just bring anything. It’s your birthday, after all.

“I heard you love tea, so I went out of my way to find a set that’s worthy of you.

“This is just a little something from me. I hope you like it.”

People crowded in for a closer look.

“This is really something.”

“Yeah, looks like Cassian’s work. A set like this must cost over a hundred grand, right?”

“How does a secretary afford something like this?”

Of course, it wasn’t Kellen who paid for it.

This was Wiona’s own tea set, the one she used to display at home. Two months ago, it had just vanished.

Wiona had asked Jace about it, and he’d told her he’d given it to someone important who loved Cassian’s work.

Jace knew it was one of Wiona’s treasures.

What he didn’t know was that it was part of her wedding gifts.

He didn’t know that Cassian was Wiona’s mentor.

He had no idea that this was a custom tea set Cassian made just for Wiona. It wasn’t just unique and worth a fortune. It carried the love and respect between a mentor and his student.

Wiona had loved it so much, she’d never even used it. She just kept it safe.

Jace took it without even saying a word. Wiona had been upset, but she let it go. She figured he needed it for work, maybe to help with a tricky relationship.

She just felt bad for letting her mentor down.

Grandma Grace hadn’t gone to fancy schools. But she knew how to read people.

She let out a cold laugh.

“That’s right. I wanted to see what’s been keeping Jace so busy lately.

“He’s never home. Even I, as old as I am, barely get to see him anymore.

“Ms. Castro, I invited you today because I have a question for you, as his secretary. Has Jace been caught up with some new girls?

“You see him more than anyone these days. You should know, right?

“A man’s supposed to put family first.

“Doesn’t matter how successful you are, how much money you make… if your family falls apart, what’s the point?

“Ms. Castro, I heard you grew up with nothing.

“My family was poor, too. If I hadn’t married a good, honest man back in the day, I wouldn’t have anything I have now.

“But even I know what’s right and what’s wrong. We know a woman’s most important duty is to keep her dignity and her honor.

“There are temptations everywhere in the world now, but our Salisbury family would never accept a homewrecker who tries to ruin someone else’s happiness.

“Don’t you agree?

“So, tell me, who’s the girl who’s got Jace all bewitched these days?”
