Wiona didn’t hold back. “Sophie, seriously, what was all that about today?”
“Is this about Conrad?”
The last thing Sophie wanted was for Wiona to call her out in front of everyone. She shut her down fast. “Is that really all you ever think about? Men? You’re so small-minded, Wiona. Not every woman is obsessed with guys the way you are.”
Wiona let out a sharp laugh. “So you’re saying you and Amaya did all this just to win over my mother-in-law? That’s it? You’re desperate for a mother’s love, is that it? Didn’t your mom give you any when she got married? Or did she save it all for someone else?”
Everyone knew the Clements family was huge. After Mrs. Clements married in, she went out of her way to spoil the real Clements kids so she could keep her place as the head of the house. Wiona was poking right where it hurt.
Sophie’s face twisted with anger. She just couldn’t hide it anymore. “Wiona, what are you even talking about?”
“Oh, please. You’re just a bastard. You know even know your real parents. Who do you think you are, trying to mess with my relationship with my mom?”
Wiona just shrugged. “You said it yourself, this isn’t about a man. So why did you set me up? Why go through all this trouble today?”
Sophie hesitated for a beat. She almost walked right into Wiona’s trap. For a second, she realized maybe Wiona wasn’t as clueless as she seemed. She looked down, took a breath, and when she looked up again, her whole attitude had changed.
She smiled coolly. “Ms. Morgan, let me say this one more time. I don’t know what happened between you and Amaya today. Whatever drama you’re dealing with, that’s on you, not me.”
