“Am I right?”
Sophie kept her grip on Annette, but her face had gone cold and unreadable. Wiona. That bitch just had to see straight through her!
Now that she’d been exposed, a flash of anger twisted across her face. “Wiona, who do you think you are, questioning me?”
“My relationship with Conrad is none of your business. It never will be.”
“Just remember, you were only ever a tiny distraction in his long and lonely life. You’ll never be the one who really connects with him.”
She let out a bitter laugh. “Honestly, why am I even wasting my breath on someone so clueless?”
“Fine, I’ll say it out loud. I can’t stand you.”
“And Annette feels the same way. She’ll never accept you.”
“You will never come between me and my aunt. You’re not nearly as important as you think.”
With that, Sophie turned to the Simpson family’s people. “What are you all standing around for? Grab her already!”
“This woman and her bodyguards trashed your warehouse today. She tried to steal your rare herbs. Now that she’s here, don’t let her get away.”
“Go. Now!”
She needed to make Wiona look guilty before Conrad showed up. If she could get the Simpson family to believe Wiona started everything first, then Conrad might actually take her side. With everyone convinced Wiona was just a thief stirring up chaos, it would be impossible for Wiona to talk her way out of it. At the very least, Conrad would get sick of her.
Sophie ran through the possibilities in her mind.
But the Simpson family’s people looked uncertain, glancing between the two women. What if Wiona was telling the truth? And she was pregnant. If anything happened to her, who could take the blame?
Just then, Amaya, who’d been hiding in the corner, suddenly pointed at Wiona and shouted, “She’s the thief!”
