Divorced CEO's Forgotten Wife Strikes Back (Riley and Bryce) novel Chapter 103

**TITLE: Dreams Refuse Gravity by Leo Arden Knox**

**Chapter 103: Different**

**Lucky Draw**

Riley’s instincts were sharp; if he dared to lay a finger on Vince in this moment, she would likely erupt like a volcano, unleashing her fury without hesitation.

Vince, caught off guard by Sebastian’s abrupt stop, braced himself for yet another confrontation. He had been mentally preparing for a clash, anticipating Sebastian’s usual confrontational demeanor.

Sebastian broke the tense silence, his voice steady and measured, “Just as you mentioned earlier, she’s a woman of integrity. Do you genuinely believe she’ll buy into the whispers surrounding the Torres family? You’d only end up making a fool of yourself.”

The atmosphere between the two men thickened, each standing their ground in a palpable standoff, the air crackling with unspoken tension.

At that moment, Riley emerged from her task with the property transfer paperwork, her brow slightly furrowed as she approached them. “What’s going on between you two?” she inquired, her tone a mix of curiosity and concern.

“Nothing much, just a little small talk,” Sebastian replied, his casual demeanor at odds with the charged atmosphere. “Are you finished with your business? I need you to accompany me for something important.”

“Sure,” Riley answered without a second thought. After all, her role as his bodyguard came with a certain level of obligation.

“Let’s go then,” Sebastian urged, his tone leaving no room for argument.

Before they departed, Riley turned to Vince, a hint of regret in her voice. “I was hoping to treat you to lunch after this.”

“Don’t worry about it. We can grab a bite another time,” Vince replied, a reassuring smile gracing his lips. As he parted from Riley, he pulled her into a brief, friendly hug.

Riley instinctively reciprocated, their embrace a familiar gesture of camaraderie forged through their shared experiences in the military.

While they held each other, Vince shot Sebastian a smug glance, a silent challenge lingering in the air.

Sebastian’s expression darkened, his fists clenching at his sides, a storm brewing beneath his calm exterior.

Moments later, Riley and Sebastian slid into the car, the tension still palpable.

Inside the vehicle, Riley turned to him, curiosity piqued. “What do you need me for?”

“There’s a party tomorrow night, and I need you to accompany me,” he stated, his tone leaving no room for debate.

“Alright,” she replied, a hint of intrigue in her voice. “And for now?”

“First, we need to pick out a dress for you,” Sebastian said, his eyes glinting with determination.

Riley frowned, skepticism creeping into her expression. “A dress isn’t exactly practical.”

Sebastian countered, “Then we’ll find one that allows you to move freely. We can make it work.”

She mulled over his words, realizing that he was, in fact, her charge—and in a way, her employer. It made sense to comply.

Silence enveloped them as Riley turned her gaze to the scenery outside the car window, lost in thought.

Meanwhile, Sebastian’s eyes remained fixed on her, contemplating the earlier conversation he had overheard between her and Vince.

When Vince had labeled the Torres family as unhinged, Riley had firmly disagreed, defending Sebastian’s character. Even when Vince attempted to share the gossip surrounding the Torres family, she had dismissed it as unsubstantiated.
