Divorced CEO's Forgotten Wife Strikes Back (Riley and Bryce) novel Chapter 15

### Dreams Refuse Gravity by Leo Arden Knox

**Chapter 15: She’d Tamed the Beast!**

The crowd that had been showering Riley with admiration just moments ago scattered like leaves in a storm, panic gripping their hearts.

“Lara!” Riley shouted, her instincts kicking in as she yanked her friend out of the path of the rampaging horse.

But then, a horrifying sight caught her eye—Sebastian stood frozen, oblivious to the chaos, directly in the path of Bella’s out-of-control stallion. The massive beast was barreling toward him, hooves pounding against the ground with a ferocity that sent tremors through the air.

If no one acted quickly, Sebastian would be trampled.

The thought sent a chill down Riley’s spine. At that speed, the consequences could be catastrophic—broken bones, or worse, a life lost!

Without a moment’s hesitation, Riley lunged forward, her heart racing. She tackled Sebastian, wrapping her arms around him as they both tumbled to the ground, narrowly escaping the horse’s thunderous charge.

Gasps and screams erupted from the onlookers, their faces painted with shock and horror.

Nathan, standing a few feet away, let out a shaky breath.

“Holy shit. If that Sinclair horse had hurt Sebastian…”

The weight of the situation hung heavily in the air. They’d all be in deep trouble!

Riley lay there, panting, the reality of her actions crashing over her like a wave. The adrenaline coursed through her veins, and she felt the heat of Sebastian’s body against hers.

“Sebastian, you okay? Are you hurt?” she asked, urgency threading through her voice.

Silence hung between them; Sebastian didn’t reply, his body still pressed against hers.

Panic bubbled within Riley. Did he get kicked by the horse during their roll?

She attempted to push herself up, to check on him, but a firm hand landed on her shoulder, halting her.

“Why did you save me?” Sebastian’s voice was cool, almost detached, yet it sent shivers down her spine.

“Just instinct,” Riley replied, her tone matter-of-fact.

Years of military training had instilled in her the reflex to act first and ponder later.

“Instinct?” Sebastian raised himself slightly, his gaze piercing into hers.

Their position felt intimate, his body hovering just above hers, and for a fleeting moment, a spark ignited in his usually vacant eyes, reflecting the determination etched on Riley’s face.

“Yeah,” she affirmed, her voice steady. “I’d have done it for anyone.”

Sebastian blinked, momentarily taken aback by her boldness.

“Come on, if you’re not hurt, get up,” Riley urged, impatience creeping into her tone.

His eyes glimmered with surprise; few dared to speak to him so frankly.

With a frustrated huff, Riley shoved him aside and stood, brushing dirt from her clothes.

Nearby, the stallion continued to gallop wildly, its mane flying like a banner of chaos.

And Bella? She clung desperately to the horse’s back, her screams piercing the air.

“Help! Somebody stop this horse!”

The crowd remained paralyzed, too frightened to approach the frenzied animal.

Suddenly, Bella’s grip faltered. The reins slipped from her fingers, and with a wild leap, she was thrown off, crashing onto the ground.

Miraculously, she landed on a patch of soft grass.

A wail escaped her lips, her body writhing in pain as she struggled to comprehend what had just happened.
