**TITLE: Dreams Refuse Gravity by Leo Arden Knox**
**Chapter 152: Blushing Moments**
Sebastian blinked rapidly, his mind struggling to refocus on the game before him. His character, a digital avatar crafted with care, moved closely behind Riley’s, mirroring her every move like a loyal shadow.
Just as their squad was closing in on the mission target, the atmosphere shifted. Out of nowhere, rival teams surged forward, charging at them like a pack of wolves.
It was clear what was happening; the other squads had formed an alliance, intent on eliminating the strongest group first.
“Oh, come on! Are we not allowed to finish the mission or what?” Lara’s voice was laced with frustration, her tone on the verge of a curse as she threw her hands up in exasperation.
The rest of the team scrambled for cover, their movements frantic as they dodged incoming fire.
Riley turned sharply to Sebastian, her expression serious. “Don’t follow me. Find cover—now.”
With that, she ducked behind a barricade, her determination palpable as she rushed toward the enemy.
Sebastian watched her go, a knot of anxiety tightening in his stomach. Even though this was just a game, the thought of her running headlong into danger alone made his heart race.
If he had one regret in life, it was not enlisting back then. He hadn’t been there for her when it mattered, not as a comrade, not as someone she could trust with her life in the heat of battle. But perhaps, just perhaps, he could change that here, in this digital battlefield.
He made the decision to go after her.
Enemies swarmed in, surrounding them like an unstoppable tide.
“Riley!” she shouted to Lara over the team channel, her voice steady despite the chaos. “You guys go finish the mission! I’ll hold them off!”
Since she wasn’t tied to the mission, it didn’t matter if she went down fighting the enemy players.
“Got it!” Lara replied decisively, her voice cutting through the noise.
As Riley drew enemy fire, Lara and the other three teammates skirted the battle, making a beeline for the objective.
Riley activated her ultimate ability. Her avatar ignited with a fierce glow, blazing through the enemies in a whirlwind of gunfire and explosions.
The opponents fought back with ferocity—their bullets and grenades creating a deadly net that closed in around her.
She fought valiantly, buying as much time as she could until Lara’s voice crackled through the channel. “Done! Mission completed!”
A wave of relief washed over Riley. Her ammo was nearly depleted, and she knew that going down in this battle seemed inevitable.
But then, to her astonishment, the enemies around her began to drop, one by one.
Riley froze, stunned and momentarily speechless.
Shocked exclamations erupted from Lara and the others in the voice channel.
“Riley, are you sure Sebastian’s never played this game before?”
“This guy’s insane!”
“Dude’s a total beast!”
Riley glanced at Sebastian, who was still wielding the beginner-friendly rifle she had handed him earlier.
Yet, each shot he took was dead on target. No wasted bullets.
Sure, she had seen him shoot at a real range before, and yes, he was frighteningly good.
But this? This was his first time playing a game like this, and he was carrying them through.
Even she was taken aback.
When the last enemy finally fell, she turned her gaze back to the screen. His character walked toward hers, steady and calm amidst the chaos.
His voice filled her ears, low and earnest. “I don’t care if it’s just a game. I don’t want to see you get hurt.”
