“What?” Wren blinked, her confusion evident as she processed the unfolding drama.
**Lucky Draw**
Riley narrowed her eyes, fixing her gaze on Bella, whose expression dripped with smug satisfaction and malice.
“What’s the deal here, Bella? Why on earth should Riley be the one to apologize?” Wren inquired, her brow furrowing in bewilderment.
Bella crossed her arms, a self-satisfied smirk playing on her lips. “You see, Bryce and I attended this charity event for orphans just a few days back. I had this nagging suspicion that Riley was the one behind those sneaky texts to reporters, trying to tarnish my reputation. So, I decided to check her phone, but she flipped out on us—totally defensive and downright nasty,” she explained, her tone dripping with indignation.
She paused, allowing the weight of her words to settle, then continued with a flourish. “And Wren, guess what? It’s Riley who’s responsible for Bryce’s broken wrist. Sebastian wouldn’t have done it if it weren’t for her!”
Wren’s complexion drained of color at the revelation.
Sebastian had broken Bryce’s wrist… for Riley?
He was never the type to stick his neck out for anyone. Yet, time and again, he did just that for her.
“Riley, you need to apologize to them. Right now!” Wren’s voice rose sharply, her patience wearing thin.
Riley, however, was unfazed by their plight.
**Lucky Draw**
Chris had already called her regarding the same issue—he needed her to fly to the island via helicopter for a high-stakes rescue mission. She had no intention of wasting precious moments here.
“Don’t even think about walking away!” Wren blocked the doorway, determination etched on her face.
She needed Bella’s cooperation for this rescue mission to rectify her earlier blunder. If those Anderson Group employees perished on that island, the consequences would be dire for her as well.
“Why wouldn’t I dare?” Riley shot back, a mocking grin spreading across her face.
“Riley!” Bella stepped forward, her demeanor shifting to one of earnestness. “You’re a seasoned veteran, right? Always preaching about kindness and heroism. Well, here’s your moment. Just say you’re sorry. If you do, and it sounds genuine enough, I’ll arrange that helicopter to save those people. But if you refuse?” She feigned a dramatic sigh. “Well, I guess I’ll be too distraught to focus during the flight… which means those people are doomed.”
“If anything happens to those trapped Anderson Group employees because of the delay in their rescue, it’ll be entirely on you!” Bella’s strategy was clear—she was determined to place the blame squarely on Riley’s shoulders.
“Riley,” Bryce finally interjected, his tone firm, “forget about me, but you need to apologize to Bella. She’s a hero in firefighting. She doesn’t deserve your disrespect!”
“Hero?” Riley scoffed, her skepticism palpable.
People like Bella made Riley question whether she truly embodied the notion of heroism herself.
From Bella’s grandstanding at the orphanage event that day, it was painfully evident that she was concealing something beneath her bravado.
“I’m not sure about her hero status, but if you think I’m slandering her, then show me the proof. And frankly, I don’t have time to waste on this nonsense,” Riley replied, her irritation bubbling to the surface.
