**TITLE: Dreams Refuse Gravity by Leo Arden Knox**
**Chapter 210: Change Tune in an Instant**
What if they stripped her of her title? What would that mean for her future?
Before Bella could fully digest the unsettling thought, the large screen in front of her flickered to life once more, transitioning into a new segment that sent a chill racing down her spine.
It was the press conference for Cloud Airlines.
Bella’s gaze was riveted to the display, her heart pounding in her chest.
“+21 Bonus” flashed ominously at the corner of the screen, but she barely registered it.
“After a thorough investigation,” the spokesperson declared with a tone that felt almost rehearsed, “Cloud Airlines has made the decision to terminate Bella Sinclair’s employment. She will no longer hold any position within the company.”
The blood drained from Bella’s face, leaving her feeling as if she had been plunged into ice water.
No. This can’t be happening.
How could they dismiss her without so much as a warning…?
Her phone vibrated violently in her pocket, shaking her from her stupor. With trembling hands, she retrieved it, her heart racing as she stared at the screen. The official termination notice glared back at her like a cruel joke. Her fingers weakened, and she nearly dropped the device onto the floor.
“Divorced: CEO’s Forgotten Wife S…”
“Bella!” Amanda’s bewildered voice broke through the haze of shock that enveloped her. “What’s going on? Why would Cloud Airlines fire you?”
Bella’s mind was a blank slate, devoid of any coherent response. She felt like a deer caught in headlights, unable to move or speak.
“Mom, please just drop it,” Bryce interjected, his voice laced with urgency.
“Drop it? How can I possibly drop it?” Amanda’s voice rose, tinged with a mix of concern and disbelief. “Does this mean Bella is no longer a copilot?”
She had spent countless afternoons boasting to her neighbors back home about her future daughter-in-law’s prestigious position at Cloud Airlines. The thought of Bella being grounded for good was enough to turn her into the laughingstock of the village.
“Can someone please explain what’s happening?” Claire demanded, her brow furrowed with worry.
Then, Lara’s voice sliced through the tension, loud enough to attract the attention of half the mall. “Claire, didn’t you say it didn’t matter that Bella didn’t help? Still think so now?”
“Your Bella had fire extinguishers right next to her but chose to run instead. That’s why she lost her title and why Cloud Airlines is kicking her out. Let’s face it—she only got that copilot spot because of—”
“Can’t she?” Lara interjected, a smirk playing on her lips as she reveled in the unfolding drama. “Bella, didn’t you say Riley shouldn’t argue with the elders? That if Bryce’s mom scolded or slapped her, she should just take it?”
Bella’s mouth opened in shock, but no words emerged.
Yes, she had said that—back when she was trying to curry favor with Amanda, to humiliate Riley.
Now, her own words felt like daggers, piercing her from within.
“Bryce…” she started, desperation creeping into her voice.
But before he could respond, Riley’s smooth, cutting voice slid into the fray. “Bryce, since you’re so big on being filial, shouldn’t you remind Bella that your mom can scold or even hit her, and she’s supposed to just take it?”
Bryce’s throat worked, but no sound escaped. Under Riley’s taunting gaze, every excuse he had crumbled to dust.
Amanda continued her tirade, hurling insults with a venomous precision that left Bella reeling.
Finally, Bella snapped, her voice rising in defiance, only to ignite Amanda’s fury further. Claire quickly joined the fray, her voice adding to the cacophony of accusations.
“Mom! Bella! Enough!” Bryce shouted as he shoved himself between them, desperate to prevent the situation from spiraling into an all-out brawl.
