Chapter 224 Lend You Fifty Million Dollars
As he spoke, he turned to head toward the kitchen, clearly planning to grab an apron and put it on.
“No!” She quickly stopped him, grabbing his arm. “I was just joking.”
“Then next time I cook for you, I’ll make sure to wear one,” he said with a grin as he placed the insulated container in front of her.
She took a sip. The soup was warm, comforting, and kind of
sweet.
Maybe spending the rest of her life with this man wouldn’t be so bad after all.
That afternoon, Riley returned to the office.
As expected, Lara was all over her with a look of gleeful mischief. “Come on, spill. Did you eat Sebastian alive last night?”
“Yep,” Riley said, not missing a beat.
Lara gawked. “Seriously? You finally caved? I thought you were gonna hold out until the end of time!”

Riley rolled her eyes.
“Anyway,” Lara added, “we didn’t even finish watching yesterday’s performance. Wanna go again sometime?”

“Find someone else,” Riley said dryly. “I’m afraid if I go you again, the show’s gonna get cut off halfway again.”

Lara froze for a second, then her eyes widened as the pieces clicked into place.
“Wait, are you telling me Sebastian was the reason the performance got shut down last night?”
Riley nodded. “Yeah.”
Lara let out a low whistle. “Damn, Classic Mr. Torres–never one to play small. Got it, I’ll drag someone else next time.”
“By the way, how did things go with Shawn last night?” Riley asked with concern.
“Well, what else? I laid it all out, we said our goodbyes, and that’s that,” Lana replied.
“You and he…”
“There’s nothing left,” Lara said firmly, giving Riley’s shoulder a friendly pat. “I’ve been over him for a long time. If I can bring it up, I can let it go. I’m good.”

“I’m glad to hear that,” Riley replied with a smile.

“Also–hot off the press–Murphy Tech is about to lose one of its investors. Word is that a major VC is pulling out. Bryce is probably running around in full panic mode right now. If he can’t lock down fresh funding soon, he might have no choice but to sell the company off for scraps.”
“His company was never worth that much to begin with,” Riley said coolly.
“Exactly. With these tech startups, it’s all about the talent. And he still doesn’t get why he managed to make it to IPO in the first place,” Lara scoffed. “The guy actually thought he could use your patent. Can you believe that? As if he even knows what to do with it!”
Riley gave a small laugh. “It’s my patent. He was never going to get to use it.”
“Divorcing him was the smartest thing you ever did,” Lara said. “Honestly, give it a little time. Bryce is going to end up with nothing.”
“And I’ll still be the lucky one for getting out when I did,” Riley said quietly.
A man like Bryce always wanted more than he deserved, and in the end, he’d lose everything because of it.
She was just grateful she’d finally seen him clearly and walked away for good.

In the Murphy Tech CEO’s office, Bryce threw his phone.
It flew across the room and hit the floor with a loud crack.
How could this be happening? He’d already swallowed his pride and begged, but the investors were still pulling out–no compromise, no negotiation.
They knew exactly what kind of damage this would cause, and they still didn’t care.
“Bryce!” Bella burst through the door, nearly getting smacked in the face by the phone. “What happened?”
“Nothing,” Bryce gritted out, struggling to keep his temper in check. “Why are you here?”
“I might have a solution,” she said quickly. “I know someone who does private credit lending. The interest is a bit higher than the bank’s, but your company is in urgent need of funding, right? You can borrow the money now, and once things pick up, you’ll have no problem paying it back.”
“Private credit?” Bryce frowned. Those kinds of loans usually required steady business operations and a minimum annual turnover.
But ever since Riley had resigned everything had
gone
downhill.
