Chapter 235 The Truth Drowns in the River
But after what Bella had done to him, Garrett wasn’t about to let her off easy.
“Fifty million dollars? Calling the cops? Blackmail and fraud?” Bryce’s mind reeled, confusion clouding, his face. “Bella, what’s going on? You said you didn’t have money, How could you give Garrett that kind of cash?”
“I… it was…” Bella stammered, struggling for an answer.
Before she could explain, Bryce’s face shifted as a realization hit him. “That fifty million dollars–don’t tell me it’s from my loan? You said Nathan needed it for cash flow, that it’d be frozen for a week. But you gave it to Garrett, didn’t you?”
Cold sweat beaded on Bryce’s forehead.
If Bella had given it to Garrett, his last chance to save his failing company had slipped away.
“It was… Garrett threatened me!” Bella blurted, her voice frantic. “I transferred the money to his account to protect myself! But don’t worry, he’s a criminal now! The police will recover it soon, and we won’t lose a dime!”

She had planned it perfectly. Transfer the money, then report him. Garrett would be caught red–handed, and once the police verified the blackmail, the funds would be returned.
But Vince had thrown a wrench in her perfect scheme.
“Didn’t you just say you don’t know this guy?” Vince said, his tone dripping with sarcasm. “Now you’re admitting you do?”
Bella flushed, caught in her own lie.
Bryce stared at her, his expression a tangle of doubt and hurt. “Garrett… threatened you? What could he possibly have on you to demand that kind of money?”
To his knowledge, Garrett and Bella barely even knew each other.
No… There was one possible connection. The only thing that tied them was when Bryce had asked Garrett to investigate who saved him from drowning years ago.
Garrett had told him it was Bella.
Now, the thought that Garrett might have lied… Bryce couldn’t even bear to consider what that meant.
If that were true, it would mean his entire world had been built
on a lie.

Garrett, seeing no way out, decided to go all in. He’d lost the money and been burned by Bella’s betrayal, so now he would not let her walk away unscathed.
“What else?” Garrett shouted. “Because this woman isn’t your savior! She’s a fraud! She didn’t want me spilling the truth, so she offered me fifty million dollars to keep my mouth shut!”
Bella forced a calm facade. “Bryce, Garrett’s been bought by Riley and her crew. You have to believe me!”
Bryce’s throat tightened, his gaze shifting past Bella to Riley.
If Bella wasn’t the one who saved him, he’d been wrong about Riley all along.
“Riley…” His voice cracked. “You… you didn’t save me that day, did you?”
Riley’s lips curled into a cold smile. “Bryce, do you realize how pathetic you sound right now? You thought Bella saved you, so you owed her. You betrayed our marriage for her. Even knowing she’s done wrong, you’re still protecting her. But what if she never saved you? What would you do then?”
“No, it was Bella. It has to be Bella!” Bryce muttered, his voice hollow.

“Let’s find out,” Sebastian said suddenly. In a swift motion, he grabbed Bella by the neck and pinned her against the riverbank’s railing. “If we throw her in, we’ll see if she can really save anyone.”
Bella’s face went deathly pale.
Was Sebastian about to toss her into the river?
No way!
If he did, her lie would be exposed.
Cold sweat poured down her back.
“Let go… let me go!” Bella thrashed, clawing at Sebastian’s fingers around her neck.
But it was useless. His grip was iron, tightening just enough to hold her without choking her. She felt her body being pushed closer to the edge of the railing. One more shove, and she’d
