While Riley was still trying to figure it out, she heard footsteps behind her.

“This is a private island.” Sebastian’s voice came from behind her. “It’s surrounded by ocean on all sides. The only way off is by boat or plane.”

Riley spun around and watched him walk toward her, one slow step at a time.

“I want to leave,” she said.

“Not happening.” His voice was flat. “No boats, no planes. You can’t leave the island.”

She glared at him.

Is he seriously planning to trap me here?

But if she could just find a boat or a plane…

“The boats and planes aren’t on the island.” It was like he’d read her mind. “A helicopter drops supplies every three days. If you need anything specific, I can have them bring it. But that’s it.”

Riley stared at him in disbelief. He’d really thought this through.

“Right now, it’s just you and me on this entire island,” Sebastian

Riley’s eyes narrowed. “What the hell are you trying to do?”

“I told you. I want you to heal properly instead of rushing off to Russia while you’re still injured.” He reached out and pulled her into his arms. “Riley, once you’re healed, I’ll take you back to Washington.”

Riley asked, “So you’re kidnapping me? Holding me prisoner on this island?”

“Prisoner?” He pulled her closer. ‘If that’s how you want to see it, fine.”

She shoved him away hard and slapped him across the face. “Sebastian, I’m not some toy you can just lock up wherever you want. If you don’t want me filing charges against you, you’d better let me go right now.”

He didn’t even flinch, like he hadn’t felt the slap at all. Instead he leaned his face closer to hers. “Does your hand hurt? You didn’t hit the other side yet. Want to?”

“You-” She choked on her words, so angry she couldn’t even speak.

He took her hand gently and rubbed her palm. “Even if you do press charges, I’m not letting you leave. Like I said, once you’re healed, I’ll take you back myself.”

She yanked her hand away and glared at him. “Sebastian, you’re insane!”

“Yeah, I guess I am.” His laugh was bitter. “You should’ve figured that out by now, right?”

He was a lunatic who’d lost his mind over her.

And even he didn’t know how far his obsession would go.

He said, “Riley, just heal up and I’ll let you go. Hell, if you want me to leave you alone forever after that, I’ll do it. I promise.”

Riley froze.

Leave her alone forever? Did that mean Sebastian was actually ready to let go of whatever feelings he had for her?

“How long are you keeping me here?” she asked.

His eyes dropped to her left shoulder. “At the rate your body heals, it’ll take about two weeks for that injury to get better. So I’m keeping you here for two weeks. I brought all the medicine you need too.”

Riley thought it over for a moment. If Sebastian had gone to so much trouble, he obviously wasn’t going to let her leave easily. Fighting him would just make things worse for both of them.

“Fine,” she said. “But you’d better keep your word this time.”

“I will,” Sebastian said.

Riley pulled out her phone. It was off.

When she powered it back on, she saw a flood of missed calls and text messages waiting for her.

Most of the missed calls and messages were from Lara and

Vince.

Riley called Lara first. The second the call connected, Lara’s panicked voice came through. “Riley? Is that you? Are you okay? Did Sebastian do anything to you?”

The rapid–fire questions made Riley’s ears ring.

“I’m fine,” Riley said. As for whether Sebastian had done anything to her… well, did trapping her on an island count?

“Really?”

“Yeah, really. Sebastian just took me to some island to recover. I’ll be back in about two weeks.” Riley tried to calm her friend down.

“An island? To recover?” Lara sounded confused. “Which island?”

Riley glanced at Sebastian. They were standing close enough that he could definitely hear Lara’s question.

But he didn’t say anything, and it was pretty clear he wasn’t planning to tell her exactly where they were.

“Not sure, but don’t worry. He’s not going to hurt me,” Riley said.

Lara went quiet for a moment. “Can you at least use your phone freely?”

“Yeah.” Sebastian hadn’t taken her phone away, and he wasn’t stopping her from calling Lara, so obviously, he wasn’t trying to cut off her communication.

“Okay, then you need to talk to me every single day. And if anything happens—anything at all—you tell me immediately!” Lara insisted.

“I will.”

“Also, you need to call Vince right now, or he’s seriously about to storm the Torres family,” Lara warned her.

“Got it.”

After hanging up with Lara, Riley dialed Vince.

“Rye, are you okay?” Vince’s anxious voice came through
