“Does he think that way too?” Riley asked.

“Of course he does,” Lara replied.

“And if he refuses to break up after a year?”

“That’s impossible,” Lara said. “It’s Shawn. Why would he refuse to break up with me? What, is he going to fall in love with me so deeply he can’t leave?”

“But it’s the drone parts project. If we secure it, I’ll be responsible for managing it. I need to be there tomorrow,” Riley said.

“But you and Sebastian…” Lara hesitated, worried the encounter would be unnecessarily uncomfortable.

“Don’t worry. It’s business. Sebastian won’t mix personal issues into work. Besides…” Riley paused. “I plan to stay in Washington. I can’t avoid him every time I see him.”

Lara didn’t argue further. “Fine. Then we’ll go together
