Cynthia was still shouting loudly, ‘Riley, you can’t leave me! Weren’t you a soldier before? Aren’t soldiers supposed to save lives and help the wounded? Aren’t they supposed to sacrifice themselves to protect others?”

Riley glared at her. “You want me to sacrifice myself to protect someone who tried to kill me? Are you crazy?”

Cynthia’s face twisted. “Riley, aren’t you afraid Zane will suffer? Lina is your brother’s precious darling. If she hadn’t gotten sick suddenly, Zane might have married her already. If I die, Lina won’t survive!”

Riley was stunned. She had always thought Lina was just Samuel’s lifesaver. She hadn’t realized they had that kind of relationship.

“If you want to live, stop talking nonsense. Let me pull you up first.” Riley knew continuing like this would only drain her strength further.

“Okay!” Cynthia quickly agreed.

Riley took a deep breath and pulled Cynthia up with effort.

Cynthia lay sprawled on the floor, looking like someone who had narrowly escaped death.

Riley held the wet cloth, catching her breath for a moment. Dragging her fractured right calf, she said to Cynthia, “Let’s get 5 out of here first.”

Just as Piley turned around, Cynthia reached out with malicious intent and pushed Riley,

“Go to hell!”

But just as her hand was about to shove Riley, Riley turned, avoiding Cynthia’s hand. Then, under Cynthia’s stunned gaze, Riley knocked her unconscious.

Cynthia collapsed to the floor.

Riley pressed her lips together. The smoke and the blast earlier had drained her completely–her body felt weak, every movement a struggle.

Can I really get Cynthia out?

She thought of the look on Samuel’s face when he mentioned Lína,

Gritting her teeth, she prepared to hoist Cynthia onto her shoulders when suddenly the ceiling began to crumble and fall.

Riley forcefully dragged and threw Cynthia towards a slightly safer open area.

But for herself, trying to dodge was already too late.

Her broken right leg made any quick movement impossible.

All she could do was protect her vital organs, try to minimize the

damage.

“Together!” Riley moved her body, standing up.

Several chunks of ceiling debris were pressing down on Sebastian’s back. They were heavy, and more fragments could fall at any moment.

She had to quickly remove the rubble from his back.

With difficulty, she began moving the rubble off him.

“Don’t worry about me. I won’t die. You leave first. Rescuers… should be here soon…” Sebastian murmured.

He saved her so she wouldn’t waste life–saving time on him.

“Stop talking nonsense!” Riley continued moving the rocks. “I said, we leave together!”

Her voice was so resolute.

In the firelight, the ruby on the necklace swayed, refracting the flames‘ light, stinging his eyes.

one by one.

That was the first time he felt someone cared whether he lived or

died.

His father didn’t care about his life. His mother didn’t care
