"I remember," Thomas said lazily.

"Then why did you meddle? Why did you bring her to Russia? And why did you tell her about the stem cell donation?" Sebastian's voice grew sharper and colder.

Anyone else would've been drenched in fear by now.

Thomas, however, stayed relaxed. "What was I supposed to do? Just stand there and watch you destroy yourself?" Thomas said without lifting an eyebrow.

"Thomas!" Sebastian snapped. "Do you think I'm joking?"

Before Thomas could reply, Sebastian grabbed him by the throat.

Thomas' breath caught, but he still didn't look afraid. "Riley promised she'd protect me. Do you really want her to hate you?"

Sebastian froze for half a second, then loosened his grip.

Thomas took a long breath. "I didn't do anything reckless. I only told her because I knew how she feels about you. If you're doing something this big for her, she deserves to know."

"And then what?" Sebastian let out a bitter laugh. "You want her drowning in guilt? Feeling sorry for me? Pity doesn't last. The moment something goes wrong, it disappears."

"What, Riley never told you she loved you? She wasn't just being kind," Thomas said.

"She did. So what?" Sebastian lowered his gaze and touched the black leather cuff on his wrist, a familiar habit. "Thomas, someone like me... how much could she really love me? She said she loved me, but even if she meant it, it never felt like enough."

"You—" Thomas started, but he didn't know what to say.

"It won't change anything whether she comes to Russia or not," Sebastian said.

Thomas' eyes widened. "What's that supposed to mean? You're not planning to get back together with her?"
